With methylated amphetamines, you need fluids, calories with electrolytes and rest - ugh ooh, the limo frpm the spa should come get you for a day of light reading and massage ~ With amphetamines like mda, the limo from the spa did come and drove over you three or four times in the driveway....
There are some surface similarities but it's not that similar to Meth. The sought after effects with MDA are the sertonergic ones like MDMA such as the 'lovey' feelings and the mild psychedelia with the music enhancement and enhanced sensory experience. Most people who use meth seek dopaminergic effects such as increased 'alertness' and 'focus'. Meth tends to be more moreish as well where it's not uncommon for people to redose throughout an entire night as where aside from perhaps a single redose MDA is not, tends to build up a tolerance to it's desired effects and so it's more like MDMA. I find the jaw grinding, body tension and most other side effects aside from maybe the crash significantly more pronounced with METH. I would say MDA does tend to have more of a 'wired' sensation that reminds me more of Meth then does MDMA but overall it's much more along the lines of an MDMA experience. As far as sleeping goes, remember that I said the duration tends to be a bit longer with MDA so take that into consideration, I don't find it produces sleep problems beyond the peak affects though. I think the ability to discern MDA from MDMA is due to a variety of factors. Given the recreational environment they are both generally taken in, such as rave/festival etc. it's not really an environment where many are sitting there the whole experience trying to figure out what the chems are or are not doing, it's generally kind of a go with the flow type trip. They are also sometimes mixed in pills and do have a fairly similar effect profile so I tend to find some distinct aspects of each but hard to put into words and I don't think it's necessarily just inexperience people who can't differentiate, I think these chems affect some people more strongly than others.
