Protein can very easily be obtained from plants. 5 pages back, someone said that one amino acid (protein) can only be obtained from animal sources. Not to worry. There is many amino acids. But what the body does is stores one type that it gets alot of and can convert it into a different type of amino acid.
Who said otherwise? Eating meat is perfectly natural... However so is the ability to choose not to eat meat. Saying that one should eat meat because it is natural to do so is utterly redundant. Like saying that people should never cut their hair because it naturally would grow out ... we have the choice to leave it as it is or to cut it, just as we have the choice to kill animals for food or get our nutrition from other sources
It's natural for animals to eat each other. Humans are animals. Therefore, it's natural for humans to eat animals. QED.
I agree what you have to say about locking animals in cages is wrong but not all meat is factory farmed. I think you might find most lamb is not.
Eh, it's just a name someone made up, who cares? Screw technicality. I was vegetarian (completely) for four years, but I was sick of being anemic and I didn't really see the point so much anymore. It was more of a rebellion and a fashion than anything. To me, vegetarianism is more about being opposed to animal cruelty than it is about being opposed to eating animals. The latter is nonsensical, because as it's been said a thousand times in this thread, it's the natural way for animals to consume other animals. The way animals are slaughtered and manufactured today, however, is unnatural. And inhumane, and unsanitary. That's why I don't eat burgers. So I suppose then, I am a vegetarian by my own terms. I believe in a natural way of life without being irrational. To subsist, one cannot be completely passive and forgo harming both animals and plants. A vegetarian saying "If I could I wouldn't eat plants" is simply going against the definition of the cycle of life. Existence is prevailing, making it to the top, and fighting to get there. For me to live and for you to live some things must die. To keep our blood flowing and our hearts beating some creatures must pass out of this world, some living things must be destroyed. It seems primal and unjust, but it is merely Yin and Yang, the death feeding the life. Nature isn't just rainbows and sunshine; it can be very dark, very selfish, very barbaric. And someday you and I will pass on as well and become food for maggots and worms and we'll be doing our part also. And it has been that way since the beginning of time. Comforting, isn't it? I really don't know why I'm arguing all this because it's clear that after 15 pages going before me I'm not going to get anywhere. Nevertheless, talking about the circle of life gets me feeling very zen. :H I'm feelin' at peace now. [/end sermon]
Give me your scientific references. I can tell you there are lots of fat ladies where I live but the nearest fast food outlet is at least 120km away.
haha i dont give a fuck about it.. eat meat if you want, be veggie if you want, its your fuckin choice.. i just thought that thing she said about cows and fish was the most retarded thing i have ever heard.....
Meat is part of the pyramid. If people didnt eat meat cows would be over populated so would a lot other animals and would die due to starvation. Believe me slaugter houses are not good but people are trying to make them better. Ive butchered meats in class and I can tell you that looking into a fishes little eyes and saying sorry is hard but i did it. He was allready dead and if I hadnt he would have died for no reason. Animals are butcherd every day and if peolpe dont buy the meat the cow died for no reason so its kind of worse not to eat the meat.
All this judgment... bah! My solution is simple... Eat Organic food. Its better for us all, regardless of our vegetarian or omnivore statuses and it's better for mother earth.
Actually it's been shown that athletes perform better on plant-based diets. Seeing that an athlete must get the vast majority of calories from carbohydrate, and the fact that meat is completely deficient in carbohydrate, makes your statement ridiculous at best. This statement is completely false and without scientific merit. The research proving this has been worked out since the early 1950's, and it has been shown that it is impossible to design an amino acid deficient diet short of starvation. ALL vegetables and starches contain ALL of the essential amino acids in amounts sufficient to meet or exceed the recommended amounts. In other words, the protein in plants is perfect and complete before they are even picked from the ground. I don't care what you eat, but don't make stuff up. I have read a lot of posts on here in regards to protein. I went over this very topic in some detail in another thread. For those of you who think there isn't enough protein in plants, or that you "need" the protein in animal foods, this should set the record straight.
learn a lesson from the orobourus....the snake who devours itself. we are all one, all connected by the cylce of life, death, and rebirth. some day my body will be food for the worms, the soil will grow grass that will be devouered by various animals up through the food chain....this makes us equals. i have no problem killing an animal for food, as we have this understanding...we are equals, we are the same. those who chant meat is murder are extreamists, and like all extreamists are jaded by their elitist attitude.
