Hm, yeah, but with my original reply I compared both continents in what they had to offer me, so I focused on bands I liked.

Your list of bands does represent a more influential part of American metal history. I think in the grand scheme of things, America isn't as unimportant in comparison to Europe as it is to me personally. They might be equals, but I think that since (arguably) the UK was responsible for most bands that would spark the birth of metal, AND the first real metal bands, Europe has been slightly more important after all. IF you want to count the UK as Europe. Plenty of Brits wouldn't. :p

    My 50 cents, yo.

Yeah, I was wondering what kind of bands he meant with the American lame ones... and what he pitches against those.

I grouped canadian and american bands together since canada has very little good stuff worth mentioning.

Fuck yes man. Europeans know metal for sure. In Flames, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Amon Amarth...

Yeh, I think there are more genuine metal bands in Europe. Finest things come from Europe.

I've been trying to figure out just how you see that... I thought maybe you mean they own them in putting out repetitive albums over the past 10 years, but then Slayer came to mind...

Surely you don't think that Iron Maiden owns Metallica, as while both are well past their best days, metallica in it's day owned maiden.

Nahhh,Metallica owns nothing, even Megadeth owns them..they will never own maiden as Metallica is thrash metal and maiden is heavy metal..I must say that they got a nice album though,Master of puppets which is the best metal album ever,1st in the official heavy metal chart and second is maiden Number of the beast, but that doesn't mean that they are the best metal band..Maiden got more classic album than Metallica and their concerts are great, much better than those of metallica..

Right now I like the European bands tons better then LOG, Killswitch, Mastodon, All That Remains, etc. This new American stuff pales in comparison to the old American bands like Testament and Megadeth IMO

Are you kidding me? seeing bruce dress up in costumes (different ones throughout the night) and seeing a big mascot lumber around the stage is humorous at best. Metallica has the best live show. Both metallica's and maiden's last few albums have pretty much sucked ass. But, Metallica's best albums are soo much better than Maiden's. I've got nothing against maiden, but metallica is just a better band. It may be more fair to compare maiden to priest or sabbath, but, even then maiden's coming in 3rd...

As you are a Metallica fan it is normal that you want them to be the best but let me put an end to your dream...Official best rock bandswhere maiden is first and metallica is seventh and this list includes all the greatest, black sabbath a good 4th and led zeppelin 2nd..Maybe their live concerts are better, but I will agree only if they got more than 300 000 fans in a concert..

Haha, official best band lists depends also on the personal tastes of the voters. Come on, it's just a matter of personal taste.
My opinion is that in the eighties America ruled the metal scene but since the nineties Europe simply took over. A fine example of that is the black and folk metalscene.
