The fact that you use a "best rock top 10" list as any sort of proof that some band is sooo great completely destroys all your credibility.

Yeah because playing for 300 000 000 000 people make you a great band, that must mean Iron Maiden are almost as good as the backstreet boys, your other #1 band....

Or almost as good as Metallica. I prefer Iron Maiden by the way, and not for their numbers of audience.

Backstreet boys are great too like Iron Maiden but not Metallica...Backstreet boys are a greater band than Metallica..UP THE IRONS...UP BACKSTREET BOYS..I never thought that Maiden wee greater than Sabbath or zeppelin but now that I've seen this it's outstanding and very sad but true for Metallica[IMG]

My point has been made. You prefer backstreet boys over metallica, there's nothing more I need to say.

The best death metal and black metal at least came from Scandinavia. Germany is more of a power metal country.

    Finns:
Amorphis, Beherit, Demigod, Belial, Demilich, Sentenced

    Swedes:
Dismember, Sacramentum, Therion, At the Gates

    Norwegians:
    Immortal, Burzum, Emperor, Gorgoroth, Mayhem

But for speed metal, I'll take the USA:

    Slayer and Metallica

Germany has plenty of high quality black metal bands: Graven, Vargsang, Dark Fortress, Barad Dur, Aaskereia, Luror, Buchenwald Oven, Bilskirnir, Katharsis, Lunar Aurora, Nagelfar, Falkenbach, Zorn...

The Finns may also pride themselves on Sargeist, Azaghal, Wyrd, Horna, and Satanic Warmaster.

Swedes: Silencer, Marduk, Dissection, Bathory, Shining, Blodsrit, Diabolicum, Mork Gryning, Ondskapt, Watain...

Norwegians: Taake, Kvist, Koldbrann, Vidsyn, Tulus, Darkthrone, Carpathian Forest, Ildjarn, Ulver, Satyricon, Enslaved, Solefald...

Very worthwhile scenes also exist in France (LLN and beyond) and Poland.

I do not like most death metal.

Speed metal gods are Black Sabbath,Led zeppelin,Deep Purple ,Iron Maiden and Motorhead...these groups are those who help in the evolution of speed metal..Metallica??Maybe they got some speed metal songs but I never heard...British heavy metal is the greatest of all..

Black Sabbath is a very strange example for speed metal.

I'm using this definition of "speed metal":

    http://www.anus.com/metal/about/speed_metal/

I'd call the other bands heavy metal, and agree that the UK produced some of the very best. Motorhead's kind of an exception to the category, since it's part-punk, part-heavy metal, very nearly to speed metal... witness the number of Motorhead riffs borrowed by Metallica ;)

We're not going to agree on the definition of "high quality," but this one is an exception. Top-notch metal.

    Are you retarded?

Motorhead is the only band you mentioned that can even be considered speed metal, although metallica plays thrash and thats just a heavier style of speed...

    How I despise genres...

It's pretty strange how ahead of their time they were. I wish their output had been more consistent, as I like the idea of liking Motorhead more than I like listening to most of it.

It means I like the idea of Motorhead more than the music!

When we are talking about speed metal it's maiden(be quick or be dead, invaders etc..),motorhead,judas priest.Speed Metal can find its significant beginnings with NWOBHM(Iron Maiden) bands....Bands who would later develop into thrash originally had their music deeply rooted in speed metal. Metallica's debut album Kill 'Em All, Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy, Anthrax's debut album Fistful of Metal and Overkill's debut album Feel the Fire, as well as many other early albums by thrash metal bands, contained speed metal elements (inspired by the NWOBHM(Iron Maiden)) (Wikipedia) ..as I said Metallica got some speed metal songs,as only early Metallica did some speed metal..As for Black Sabbath("Paranoid"),Led zeppelin,Deep Purple("Highway Star","Speed King","Fireball") ,Iron Maiden and Motorhead, did a lot of speed metal songs

Firstly, the idea of liking the idea of liking a band more than you like listening to a band sounds, in my opinion, to be very trendfollower'ish. Either like them or don't, man.

Secondly.. PARANOID is not a speed metal song. Zeppelin has never played any speed metal, don't be retarded. Did you just say that highway star was speed metal?! This is just sad.

Grab a Cacaphony or Agent Steel album, or yes, some motorhead or judas priest.

Also... Iron maiden is not speed metal, never has been, and judging by the last few releases, never will be.

I wrote what wikipedia said so don't blame me,if you think that at 19 years old you know more than them,it's ok for you..I never said that Iron Maiden is Speed metal but most of his songs have been speed metal before becoming this outstanding progressive heavy metal of today(by the way do you really know what is speed metal??).Like Metallica..Maiden got many styles..heavy metal, progressive metal, speed metal etc..if ever you've heard songs like be quick or be dead(fear of the dark album),invaders, aces high etc...you will see that they did some great speed metals songs, greater than those of Metallica for sure(if ever they did speed metal songs)..Even Scorpion did some speed metal songs..
