no offence to metallica fans but I just have to throw my two cents worth into the pot.

    metallica sucks !

they haven't done a decent album since 1988

as mentioned above it's all a matter of personal taste.

I saw metallica live in 84, 86, 88, 89 and 91 once cliff died, that was the beginning of the end, they've gotten progressively worse ever since

I used to think the newer albums kinda sucked ever since "black" but I'm quite find of Load, that shits just awesome. I think the worst album is Reload and even St. Anger has grown on me. I saw them early 2013. They'd been one of my fav. bands since back in high school. It was bliss seeing them live, one band notched off on my list.

Metallica is the Band of Eternity. They cannot ever be de-throned.

Been one of, if not THE, favorite band since I was 13 (18 years now). I agree the time of Cliff was the best and Master of Puppets is my favorite album. I absolutely hated St. Anger and still can't listen to more than one song at a time or it starts to get that detuned C minor drone or rack my nerves with that stupid-ass trash can sound of so-called drumming! Death magnetic got me listening to them again. Haven't checked out the stuff with Lou Reed but I'm hoping when they come around NorCal again to see them in concert. It'll be my second time as my first was the Summer Sanitarium tour back in 2000.

The next time I do see them I'd hope for them to play mostly stuff from St Anger and Death Magnetic, even though I know they wont

As awesome as the old songs were at the time, I could go the rest of my life without having to hear One or Creeping Death again

Musically there just are a couple of different Metallicas. I fell in love with the first formation and almost let their later rubbish ruin it. Now I still appreciate the good stuff but I don't care to pay one penny to see them live, as they have lost it in my humble opinion. They lost it years ago. This does not make me old or anything, it just doesn't make me a fanboy who's gonna pay 60 (or more) dollars to listen to a band who's performance has changed too much. Apparently I liked Hetfield's voice best when he thought it sucked, and now that he 'developed' it I would not voluntarily listen to it even if they'd pay me :D (and that's only one aspect of why I lost complete interest in them)

I know most don't like the Load/Reload era but I actually really enjoy Load as an album. Reload is probably their weakest IMO.
But I love The Outlaw Torn, one of my fav. songs. And after giving St. Anger more of a chance, it really isn't all that bad lol.
But still I am partial to Garage Inc to be the best Metallica album, which is ironic because it's not their own songs.. lol.

Metallica replaced potatoes as my staple diet during the famine of '48.
Black album kicks ass, Garage Inc. owns, Load is sweet, haven't listened to Reload properly - kinda bummed you guys don't seem to like it, I'll give it a shot soon. Kill 'em All is funny but I still dig it.. Death Magnetic was tragic. I never saw the appeal in Master of Puppets. I do quite like St. Anger, just not the song.
I really liked S&M. That would have been a fucking badass live show.

Master of Puppets has always been good though lol.
Ride the Lightening, I thought was kinda weak other than For Whom The Bell tolls and Fade to Black. It's definitely one of the albums I don't listen to too often.
S&M is fantastic. I have that on vinyl. =) I have most on vinyl now except Load, St. Anger, Garage Inc and Death Magnetic.

I like oldschool Metallica. Their newer stuff isn't nearly as good.

I was at Glastonbury Festival this year working, and I saw Metalica's set. I had never really listened to them before, but they were incredibly good. One of the best performances I've ever seen by a rock band.
And I've seen a fair few!

This kind of heavy rock music isn't usually my thing, but really, they were awesome.

I saw them a couple years back and they were good, yeah. Lol.
Best thing about our set was that they only played one Death Magnetic song, the rest were from ...And justice for All or earlier PLUS instrumental Orion was just excellent.

I was impressed by the technical side of it - my feeling at the time was that this is about as far as you can take it with this sort of stuff.

The last one they did was announced as from their first album - seek and destroy? I think so. Anyway, the guitar solo was mindblowing. And all those other tens of thousands of non heavy metal fans at Glasto were singing along. As I was.

What is about as far as you can take it? Metal in general? AHAHHAHHAHA you need to come to a more personal small venue and a kick ass death metal band bro. Blow your skull away it will, literally.

I never really was in it (the metal department of music) primarily for the technical side I guess. I second that as far as you can take metal you should go to a small venue but I'd go for some good black instead of death metal. But yeah death metal is in general definitely more impressive technical wise :p

Thanks for the suggestions but I will probably leave it to fate - it was only by chance I saw Metalica - so maybe by chance I'll see some better band in the future. Really I'm more into electronic music these days. But I can appreciate quality where I see it. Least, I hope so..................

I guess I was comparing Metalica to bands I saw years ago who were at the time much vaunted - Sabbath, Purple, few others. I really haven't been a metal fan since those remote days.
