You know there are MANY domestic atrocities that deserve attention WAY before Darfur or anything else. The thing is, you just don't hear about those atrocities nearly as much as you hear about the slaughter in Darfur or Tibet or the Femicide in Mexico.. I think we should take care of our own before we take care of the rest of the world. You know, maybe another country could step in and help once in a while.
Yet there is truth in what he says. Mr Mojo Risin'- you are a bit too young and naive to know what you are talking about. I know most of you radical mainstream media watchin members will dissagree, but there is a huge amount of pride and honor in serving your country. There is no greater honor than to sacrifice everything for a country so that others, like us all, don't have to sacrifice anything. Veterans recieve a huge amount of respect for this, no matter what conflict they are involved in. I know this because my Dad, my Uncle, and both of my grand parents served in the military.
Disagreeing with that ridiculous statement does not make me naive. "The Army turns a boy into a man." So a 40-year old who hasn't been in the army is still a boy and will remain one forever? How does a girl turn into a woman by that philosophy? Jesus, the army is 1/1000th of a brick in the wall of your life.
No it's not that it just takes them longer, the army ages you.. Ten years. Gives you a jumpstart on life. If it wasn't for the military my husband would be still out living on the streets, and I would be living with my abusive ex. It gave us the chance for a better life we would have never had. Also, if it wasn't for the military, you probably wouldn't even exist right now.
Hey, I live in Europe, if it wasn't for Hitler and/or Stalin I probably wouldn't exist right now. That doesn't mean I have to respect them.
where is the honor in sacrificing yourself over political bullshit? I respect war veterans for their ability to overcome, adapt, survive, all that. but honor? a concept abused to con young, impressionable men into becoming tools for some political agenda for hundreds of years. oh, poor America, always being called upon to save other countries from a greater evil if you knew anything of history, you'd know that most countries, the USA especially, never do anything unless it serves their own ends. WW2? the US thought they could slip through this war unscathed, but experienced a rude awakening when the Japanese attacked. so they joined the fight, to save their own hides. Afghanistan was just a ploy to unite a nation divided and rally support for the government/prez, Iraq, well obviously, oil (and, I suspect, the opportunity to try out some of those expensive toys that hadn't seen much use in a while.) so knock it off with your unearned self-righteousness, please.
I'm not against the military, but I fucken hate recruiters I hate when they talk to you at the MALLS!!! Recruiter - What are your plans after high school son? Me - Not the military. - And don't call me son. The army was at my high school during lunch one time. The halls were busy and my friend walks by their little booth set up, in the busy crowd, and yells "FOCKKKK THE ARMY!"
Dude, you? Why? I mean.. you seem like a really cool open-minded acid tripper. I don't get why you'd want to join.
haha it doesn't stop when you graduate. I graduated last year and they still call my house pretty much every day.
Because I really need help with paying for school, plus I think that maybe joining would help me get my shit together. then again it also seems like it would really suck. but my buddy is in the military, and he is a really cool open-minded acid tripper too, and he gets by just fine, so who knows.
Oh, fair enough. Is the soldier's pay higher than you'd get on a job, though? I really have no idea about the US Army.
well look at it this way. you would never have to pay rent, never have to buy your own food, never have utility bills. so whatever pay you DO get, your aren't blowing the majority of it on bills. In addition to my pay, I would also get a completely free ride to school. all paid. Plus im a lazy fuck and I think the military would knock that right out of me. I could use some responsibility.
serving in the military is going to be a great experience, guaranteed. you'll be glad when it's over, but you'll be a much better person for it, in many ways. but I believe you sign a four year contract in the US? or is that just the marine corps? either way, you are a country at war and constantly involved in conflicts around the world, so there is a good chance you would get called to a conflict area. and that could certainly take from the experience, especially if you see actual combat.
Is there no time in the US Army you have to serve at some age? The Estonian Army drafts you at some point for 8 to 11 months. Usually after high school but the age-limit is 19 - 27 so even after college they can keep fucking you. I'll probably get off cause I have this weird-ass foot condition. And I can give them a nice lecture about being gay.
Yea dude I graduated in 2006. The story was past tense haha sorry. I was extremely close to going to the navy. Signed up, had the medical exam, went through MEPS (military entry processing station), and had a "ship out" date. My neighbor has been in the Air Force for 24 years and he talked me out of going. He got all my info transfered from the Navy to the Air Force. I can't leave until 90 days after I'm done w/ probation. (which is about september 1st). I'm really, REALLY wondering if I want to do it or not. It's a hard decision and I want to go for the same reasons as you. I'm having a hard time deciding also. About a week ago I had a random phone call from the Army, asking if I'm interested. I said I'm planning on going to the Air Force, but if you get me a $15,000 bonus for simply joining, I'll go haha. He just said to have a nice day and the stupid fuck hung up. Sorry so long
