Milwaukee Rioting

It is not standard procedure to shoot an unarmed suspect fleeing the scene.

Case in point, an unarmed black male in my state was shot last year in the back while running away from an officer. It was all caught on someone's cell phone camera. The cop was charged with murder within a couple of days.

But cops are trained to shoot to kill, period. They aren't trained to aim for a leg.

And in this case, I feel the shooting was justified. The suspect was armed and didn't drop his weapon when instructed.

 

On Sunday, a list of his priors was released. To me, he doesn't look like a victim. He looks like an idiot.


Smith had been in trouble with the law dating back at least to 2011, according to arrest records released by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office late Sunday. He was arrested or ticketed nine times in that period — for the shooting, a robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, theft, possession of heroin and more. I don't really think someone's criminal record is relevant. Cops aren't judges or executioners.

The only thing that really matters is - was the cop's life threatened? And I think in this case it was. And it would have been even if the guy had a clean record.

 

I'm sorry, I should have made it clear that my post was in response to Chigurh claiming that Smith was a victim of "systemic racism".

 

If he had the gun in his hand I would agree its the victim's own fault. Otherwise it is just assuming the worst case scenario what he would have done if shot in the legs. Although technically it would still be his own fault of course, but then the shooting to kill option should not be the standard.

 

it crossed my mind that maybe the cop planted the gun like in another well known case not too long ago.
i think its safe to say that was not the case here.

I'm afraid your theory here is flawed. What makes him stupid is having an illegal gun and posing on a pic with it that can reach the general public.
Most young men would pose with a gun (fake or not) when offered the opportunity. I know i did, just for fun and no: that lifestyle is not a guarantee for such pics at all. I am really not the exception. It is a silly (albeit understandable) assumption on your side.
Seems like you think because he fled the cops with a gun and this shit sparked a violent riot you can say anything ypu like at his expense and act like anybody that criticizes that is an apologist but he's dead and your remark at his expense wasn't funny or witty enough for me.

 

The media is most likely just sensationalizing the news as always for ratings and thus money. Not to carry out 'the system's hidden agenda.

He should conform to the regular joes. If you look like this you basically deserve to be stopped by the police on a regular basis!

 

If you pose for pictures with illegally-obtained guns which are going to be used to shoot people, then yes, you do deserved to be stopped by the police on a regular basis.
