The Eagles, Hotel California. You can hear it on any classic rack station in my area about 4 times a day.

There was a station in the central valley of California that played "I heard it thru the Grapevine" by CCR , 24 hours a day,7 days a week. Nominated.

If you read the book "You can't always get what you want" by Sam Cutler, it says that it started as kind of a tossed off joke and took off from there.I used to think it was a bit much myself.

Hmm Smells Like Teen Spirit is very overrated along with Stairway To Heaven in my opinion, its a great song but too over hyped.

 

Any Aerosmith song other than Sweet Emotion.

 

I think that's probably their most overrated =P

Plus, "Ain't that a Bitch" is awesome =D

ohh i also forgot to mention that at the time both were huge hits and revolutionary well nivana smells like teen spirit was and and yeah both songs now have gone by the wayside in my faded memory and pop culture.

Now that I think about it, another very OVERRated song has gotta be Purple's Smoke on the Water......must be because Black Night is my absolute fave by DP

 

though controversial - i'd say 'another brick in the wall'.

 

Finally someone said the MAGIC SENTENCE......I'd add the WHOLE THE WALL ALBUM IS TOTAL CRAP

 

Most of the songs mentions (I.E Stairway to Heaven; Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds; Wish You Were Here, etc.) are all amazing songs. Do I believe they're over rated? No. Do I believe they are over played? Yes. They're all fantastic songs but each of those musical artists has so many more songs that are equally good if not better.
