I am a Christian, but I do not practice it. I speak my mind about everyone...all races, sizes, ages...I'll insult my own race and myself! And everytime I speak my mind, I risk getting ridiculed by someone as closed minded as yourself. However, I do believe that my "nasty" comments about race were in another thread...so maybe we should stay on topic, what do you think?
Geez....You say you are a Christian but you dont practice it. What does that mean ? Then how are you a Christian ? Its like everyone calls themselves Christians these days, but noone is willing to practice it.... But whatever.
christian, but not practicing. usually this means that people will take the things they like from the bible and run with it but the things they don't quite like are simply overlooked. this gives them the freedom to determine their own morality and not be held by the arbitrary and, in my opinion, often pointless, rules and regs of the church. good for them.
I call those people hypocrits - things I like I'll follow, things I dont like I'll ignore. Religion sometimes demands certain sacrifices.
religion should be more of a guideline than a set of rules, in my opinion. how can you call them hypocrites? everyone's faith is their own, and everyone interprets their religion differently, and the bible could be interpreted as many different ways as there are people.
Okay, maybe the word hypocrit was a bit too strong. Its just that everyone thinks they dont need Church these days. They consider themselves better, or whatever... I dont wanna argue. Its just my opinion. Sorry if anyone got offended...
do you think that is what God wants? you to pick and choose whatever suits you and your life out of the bible? why even do it..if your only going to do what you want anyway.
You're 100% right, in my opinion. No matter how you interpret the bible, when you're the whore of babylon you have no business chastising the local crack dealer. Everybody wants to tell you that you should live right by God and keep the faith, but those same people take his name in vain, have pre marital sex, kill people etc and are just counting on that final apology to get them into their eternal bliss. If you say you are Christian you atleast should be attempting to practice the faith. Otherwise you're simply a believer in God.
I commend you for speaking your thoughts. The truth is, no one really knows anything for sure when it comes to the facts. All they can definitivly show is that there is a book that talks about an incredible human being who has an incredible birth and death. Your theory does make some credible sense. I have always said that popular religion is simply a political tool. No one should ever have to tell you what to believe or scare you into believing something that doesn't sit right with you. It is something highly personal and it more less finds you instead of the other way around.
thats what the church does...they pick and choose what they want and preach it to the people who attempt to follow suit
Well, yeah...Like Malia said : I am Catholic but not practicing it. I dont know what does that mean. Religion demands practicing. If you dont practice it, how can you say you are a Catholic ? But seriously everyone thinks they know better than the Church. I am not saying the Church is always right, but there are some rules you , as a Catholic, should obey. God is forgiving, but everyone takes that for granit.
Saying you're Catholic/Christian/Muslim etc doesn't mean people should be perfect within the confines of the rules of the religion, but make an attempt, atleast. Saying you belong to a religion when all you do is believe it but don't follow the teachings is like telling somebody you're a pacifist as you punch them in the face. Fucking un true. Yeah, people do take it way too far on the forgiveness tip. I think some people forget that to repent and to apologize are the same thing. I don't think they get the fact that they actually have to be remorseful and plan to do what they can to not make that same mistake again.
that's fair enough, if you don't practice all the aspects of your religion then maybe you have no right to claim it as yours. but most religions have such a wide array of beliefs and instructions, and quite often conflicting ones, that it's not really reasonable to expect everyone to even remember all of them, let alone practice'em. I figure if you can take something good out of a religion and it'll make your own life better some way, then that's just great. I respect a lot of the good qualities religions try to inspire in people - although it's mostly just common sensical morality - but if, to be allowed to consider oneself a follower of said religion, one also has to embrace ideas or attitudes one strongly disagrees with, well, that doesn't sound right to me. I just don't understand why religion is so often made a burden, when it should be a boon.
Not saying they should memorize the teachings in their entirity, but all religions have the basics. Ten commandments, 5 precepts, and so on. Some people don't even go through the motions of pretending to attempt like they feel those are things they should and should not do. They live life every day doing what they want and hoping like hell they understood that forgiveness/rebirth thing right. In all actuality, most people by behaviour would fall under hedonism(I believe that's the right one). Edit: It's made a burden because people miss the message and hear only, "Follow rules, get the ultimate reward". They were day dreaming during the live life with loving and compassion and kindness part.
