If you like those backwards movies then it is worth the potential trauma. I've read the reviews that say it is a hard movie to watch but it really isn't.
sci fi kind of movie??? man, it has some BAD reviews! i just googled it. but i dont go by reviews anyways.
John, have you ever read the screenplay/interview with Jodorowsky about El Topo? It's probably the most fascinating interview I've ever read and it makes the movie even more significant. Every little image in the movie has a purpose or is some sort of obscure reference. Fascinating. http://www.subcin.com/bookfilm00.html Read it, for the sake of all that is good, read it. http://www.subcin.com/jod01.html Probably my favourite movie out there, if I was forced to choose one at gunpoint.
right on. it is probable that I am (distantly) related to him. which I find exciting. :] o'flaherty blood.
I actually did read some of it awhile back. It's funny that Ira Cohen was one of the people there asking questions, and (just a hint) I get the feeling that he is the reason why Jodorowsky got Don Cherry to create the music for the film Holy Mountain. And it's also funny that I discovered Don Cherry when I was about 17, maybe 18, and absolutley had my world of music understanding shattered into nothingness, then discovered El Topo maybe a year ago, then got into Holy Mountain, and recognized the music during the ascent scene as a different version of his track Tantra-Mali Doussoun'gouni from the album Relativity Suite. Funny how psychedelics work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnB9bio8QsQ Greatest jazz musician of all time imo.
Man, I downloaded a bunch of Don Cherry, and it's pretty damn awesome. I haven't had too much time to listen to it, been leading a pretty busy existence, but I will put it on my ipod and gonna jam out to it at work while pressure washing algae or some shit over the break. Holy Mountain is amazing. Have you seen his other movies? A friend has his "compete collection" or whatever. Really interesting oddball stuff.
Band: Apocalyptica Authors: Patricia A McKillip and Charles de Lint are both awesome (dont write in tandem, separate novels etc) book: equilibrium
Nah, only those two. Id like to someday though, probably I can find them online somewhere. That's the thing about Cherry though, his music that came out when he was on top of his game is the least accesible to most people, therefor the hardest to find. And almost none of it was ever put to cd, so most of the live shows and album with like 1 or 2 30+ minute tracks on them are recorded from vinyl so the audio is horrible. Oh well, it's like anything good in life, if it were any better, it would probably hurt too much You should see if you can find his album Moving Pictures For Ears
Yea it is, although lately I havent had much luck! I found Orient, Blue Lake, Relativity Suite, Live in Ankara, Organic Music Society, some weird Swedish broadcast that I dont remember, and a bunch of others which are masterpeices, but now on the new computer, all I can find is Brown Rice and his earlier stuff with Ornette.
