any chance the GD/Phish could be relabeled "Jam bands, etc."?
It's kind of weird to use two defunct bands...
also, I think adding Old Time to the BG/County would be appropriate.

    just my 2c

I figured that you might get a say in this, from your first post it didn't seem as though you did...

Thanks very much for adding Old-Time to the Country and Bluegrass category. That music was the precursor of both country and bluegrass and is still very much alive today as a distinct genre.

I like this style. I get to check out what I'm interested in and avoid the game threads.
It allows the less popular genres to get traffic because they aren't on page 87.
and yes, thanks fo radding Old Time.
Please consider the Jam band appelation. reason is above.

It's clear to me there are two different styles of browsing going on in the music forum. Some people like to hang out here and check new threads as they arrive. These people are more upset at the change cause now they must hunt for the new threads in the different categories.

Other people come here looking for specific types of music and for them the categories make it easy to find what they're looking for. Threads stay on the first page much longer and there are fewer duplicates.

I suggest the first type of person just visit the categories they're interested in. Just like the entire site, you can NEVER read everything, so you might as well focus on those threads of interest, and not worry about those you don't get to read. Seems like the people complaining are those who participate in the game threads, and those will still be in the same place.

I think it has been said before....but I think there is a need for an "Indie/Alt"
    sub-forum......

this is going to be a problem. you cant categorize music. people are going to want more and more categories, and it will take forever just going through them all. you also need a british invasion category, and I dont see it. what if you want to talk about the kinks, or traffic, or the yardbirds..... where do you go?? the rock n roll category is so general, and youll eventually have the same problem there as you do the entire music forum.... I think this overall categorization is confusing and not worth the time. IM the type of person who listens to anything and everything, so the categorization is pointless. Id rather have everything in one spot, not have to click on every genre. it makes surfing much more difficult..... plus I dont think everyone knows where to put their thread....... the doors, where do you put that?? you can put it in the 60s, psychedelic and garage, rock and roll........ its pointless. pretty soon you will have to have a subcategory for every damn band.

Not everyone likes to listen to everything, so it's only a problem for those who do. Yes, one day we may have a forum for every damn band if there is enough interest. I don't have a problem with that.

As far as the gig list, it's more for individual concerts rather than big festivals like the other forum, but they can be listed in both places. However I can just make the gig list link to the other forum if that makes more sense.
