I would also like to add that the new subforums are now appearing in google searches (on the first page), so now people looking for a specific type of music will find our forums. The generic music forum could not attract this kind of audience. You guys typically are only concerned about yourselves, and having to make a few extra clicks, rather that the ability of the forums to be easily found by non-members and the quality of posts being made, which should improve thanks to people finding just the genre they're looking to discuss.
Music can be a unifier or a divider. We all know people who listen to Opera hate Rap and people who listen to Rap hate Opera and everybody seems to hate Country Western. I personally refuse to post on any of the subforums because they contribute to the divisiveness of music. Also, most of the music I enjoy does not fit into any category. I feel that if we are to embrace music as something we all share - a common language that can unify us - then we NEED a music forum that is not divided by genre.
Well if what you say is true, then there should be NO divisions in music stores. All the music should be placed together, and YOU should have to sort it out! Does that sound like a good idea? Also despite what people say MORE people are posting in the subforums than in the main forum. And if you don't see a LOT of new threads in those forums it's cause we no longer need to have 10 threads on the same subject. Duplicate threads are disappearing...
