My child's teacher is insensitive

This is so freaking sad. I'm a teacher, and I had kids in my class who do not have dad or even moms. Mothers/Fathers day is so difficult for those kids. I don't even call them mothers/fathers day. In my class they were moms, aunties, grandmas sisters day, and dads, uncles, grandpas, brothers,cousins day. It is not hard to know what is going on in a student's life and modify plans accordingly. It's called being sensitive and caring for the kids! I can't stand teachers who don't take the kid's feelings into consideration.
I would make a complaint to the principal at the school. (I realize this is a little late, but for future reference)
