my daughter...

i can't believe how common this is. i got her to the nose & throat specialists - these people apparenty spend all day pulling stuff out of kids' noses and ears. they even have a special code for it to put on their forms. and i thought it was just that my kid was a little wierd!

we spent all afternoon waiting to be seen. they were going to put her on a "papoose board", which is this thing they strap the poor kid down on so they can't move. it was too much like the thing they strapped her to when she was in the preemie nursury, to put the feeding tube in. i asked if she could be wrapped in a blanket instead, and they got some sheets and wrapped ber up tight like a little cocoon - she actually looked pretty comfy. in spite of wiggling and running around like a crazy girl all day, she held perfectly still, although she did cry. they stuck this thing in her nose to widen the nostril - poor baby, that looked like it hurt - but they had to in order to get the thing out, because it had swollen, like all beans do when they're soaked. but it came right out, because she held so still.

the doctor didn't see the second one - her pediatrician said he saw one up each nostil. she has to go back next week to make sure it didn't get sucked into her lungs, but it's more likely she either sneezed it out or swallowed it. when she got home, she went around trying to stick her little fingers up everyone's nose looking for beans! what a little nut!

funny thing is, her brother damien's biological father called him "bean", short for "butterbean", before he disappeared. i believe the nickname came from a B-52's song, but i don't quite remember.
