I've (heard) that many times, women overeat and thus, gain weight, because they feel neglected, uncared for, unloved, and to them, food gives them immense pleasure. It's their "drug" of choice. The fact that she gained 40 pounds in 2 years could be a much more deeper issue than her being so-called lazy and not taking pride in caring for herself.

Actually, smoking suppresses most people's appetites and makes them lose weight because they're eating less (and I think because they're body's trying to beat off the badness from smoking). Not saying that smoking is good, but it doesn't lead to obesity
