No change there then. Let's be fucked without a bunch of tory cunts in London telling us what to do. An improvement on still fucked.
I identify with neither patriotism nor nationalism. But I always assume people who fly or display foreign flags in America miss their home country, at least a bit. Or they want to signify their home to others, in case a fellow immigrant from that country sees it. I've had times when I took a place I lived for granted, and didn't realize how much I "missed" it until I was gone. So seeing or hearing a reference to my former home gave me little happy waves of nostalgia and a feeling of comradery. I'm not sure I agree with the premise of this thread. I can't say I've traveled widely enough to accept of reject it entirely, though. Non-American members: How would people react to seeing an American flag in your country?
I don't know about Catholic per se but people oddly Hold the Flag up such high regard and it shouldn't be nationalism is a cancer that eats away at the human psyche

Agreed. Instead of having them recite the pledge every morning how about teaching them something about the rights and responsibilities (in particular) of a good citizen. Have them pledge to become well informed, to question their leadership, to become involved in local politics.
My parents went on their honeymoon by traveling across the African continent in the early 80s. They said in those days, sporting an American flag brought you a lot of hospitality because foreign attitudes toward America were a lot more positive back then.
It's confined to one city but this is by far the most prevalent and annoying non-US flag flown in this area.
I dont think many people would bother about it except maybe somewhere like Bradford where there are a lot of Muslims they dont seem to like Americans ( they dont like the English Flag either )
