Nah I totally disagree. It's ignorance. What the problem is, is that the Irish were never ever going to pronounce a Slavic name correctly and so, over generations, the pronunciation just evaporated into how the English dictionary pronounces letters and words. You can say your name however you like, but if you weren't really taught where your origins come from other than the generic "you have a bit of this and that" (common American trait) then what chance did you really have of pronouncing it correctly in the first place? Pronunciation means a lot to people, as can be seen by the influx of French grammar in African American surnames. They don't want to sound English or western in any way, so they've done the homework and learned about their origins. Good on them.
And when you hear someone call Coke "Cokey" or whatevs, I don't believe you don't think to yourself for one second that "oh yeah that's normal". I won't believe that.
And also "proper" names are handed down through your family. It's rediculous to think that, the pronunciation of your surname alters just because you want it to sound different. It is true that surnames change over time through marriages and family extensions, but more often than not. It they still relate closely to the original surname.
When I was doing my research this came up a lot too, how people are pronouncing all these words wrong. I'm deaf in one ear, so I know for a fact I'm pronouncing words wrong. I fucking hate it. I usually go on Youtube to hear a word, and practice on how to pronounce it correctly. I've never been made fun for it. Thank goodness. Besides my ex, but he was mean. Also, I have been told I have a heavy accent, or just an accent in general, so that sucks when it comes to pronouncing words correctly. I want to. I really do. I don't want to offend anyone. But, for fuck damn... it's hard.
I'm just stirring him up because he doesn't like me. But for someone to pronounce a name wrong, means that somewhere along the line, somebody had to say "no, that's wrong" or that "no, you're spelling that wrong". And I can imagine how that exactly went down in America too. "Hello to the many I am Mr. Keselowski from Poland" "Like fuck YOU are you limey cocksucker! Dubbya ain't no Vee in our land mister, you best say that shit right you in Merrica now!" And that, that is EXACTLY how it went down.
I'm heaps likable in the real life, but not on the internet because I have my own thoughts and opinions that often conflicts with others thoughts and opinions and that's pretty much the basis for online friendship; you have to be in one another's pockets. I never had time to suck up to anybody in the real world and I sure as hell ain't gone start with it online either.
So, besides PB... who else do you think doesn't like you? Should I be even asking this question? I don't want to start anything. I'm just curious. I would ask you who you don't like, but that might really get me in trouble, lol. I've been forum going for many years now. I can never stick to one forum. Life gets going and I just don't have the time or interest for forum going anymore. But, in all the forums I have been to there is always people who don't like each other. It's kind of just how it is. I don't think disliking someone is generally a bad thing, though. There are a lot of people here. It's bound to happen. Just stay away from the person, and move on. Block them, if need be. Of course, you can mess around with them. That's always an option as well. I know a lot people would do that. I don't do that. I just give them a few choice words, tell them my thoughts and feelings. Then stay away and move on. I have quite a life. Very chaotic at times. But, I don't tolerate drama well. So, I cut it at the source.
I don't know who else doesn't like me. Probably 50% of everyone here. I think even the ones that do like me, we'll have clashed at some stage. As for who I don't like, I don't think I don't like many... like, I don't mind people. Now people will say to me that I don't like them because at one time we had an argument. I argue with everybody! I say it all the time though I usually just pick on people to have some fun but the sarcasm and humor often misconstrued somewhere in the text and they don't read it as light hearted as they really should. I try to put in as many dorky emoticons as I can to show that I'm just having fun, but they don't see passed it..
I specifically thought about how I like you earlier today Irminsul. True story. I thought, "That Irminsul is an ok guy."
But you can earn more money in the West, than you can in the 3rd world. Earn your money in the West, then retire to the 3rd world. It's what sensible people do, no matter what the colour of their skin.
So where is a good 3rd-world country for a US citizen to retire to? This question has kind of been on my mind as of late. I don't want to wind up in a place where I'm likely to get beheaded or something.
