alright!! like what im seeing!! The mom has BLOWN UP!! That clone looks healthy, but stretched. Maybe start giving it some more light, leave the dome off, and just mist it regularly until it starts having noticeable growth. Either way, your doing it right. Everything looks healthy and happy! Keep it up my man!
Been a few more days, clone #1 has been aprox 25-35cm from light source for 4 days now. It "leans" towards the light a little (it's on the side), but is not showing any growth that I can notice.. No roots poking out of the (fairly big) piece of rockwool either. I know I haven't killed it, but it's taking more time than I expected. Either way, this morning it was about time to start trimming and bending mom a little bit, so I took 2 new clones from it and put in a small greenhouse I found in the basement. Filled it up with leca aswell to keep it moist in there.. Will keep misting and keep the hood offm shortly a few times a day. Hope this turns out a little better then.. I'll put a pic of them both in the gallery! Just hope I can use the first clone to sex mom very soon..
Small update time I guess.. No pics this time coz I left my cam at a friends house.. Anyway, revised strategy. Realized my chamber intended for flowering is too small, so I'm going to change lights and flower the big mom in my "big" space.. The clones I'll keep vegging in the smaller box. This'll work out alot better I guess. Been bending mom quite a bit to try to get her down for a scrog. I know it's a little late starting to bend and shit, but I need more space if I'm going to flower.. Got two questions for you; 1) Tested soil pH today, and it seems to be a bit high (7-ish), so I need to get it down. I was thinking of mixing my birch wood ash in water, would that work? How much should I use? 2) I've heard about UVB lights and how UVB increase resin production. Wether or not this is true I have no clue, but IF it is, would it be worth while to install one (or two or three) of those reptile CFLs (Replux D3, Arcadia D3 etc) in my flowering space? Until next time, PeAcE!
Hey bud, lets see if i can help ya out on your questions. First of all, i don't recommend using wood ashes to lower pH. It's hard to definately tell what pH the ashes are and its very easy to over-do it when applying. Plus they have been thoroughly burnt and burnt with paper, etc.....so the ash usually has contaminates that the plants don't need or want. If i were you, id just get some pH down solution.....last time i was at lowes i noticed they had pH up and down solution.....also have seen these products at pet stores that sell fish.....or stores dedicated just to selling fish. If you want to go another route....distilled white vinegar can be added at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon of water. Although, vinegar tends to actually up the pH over a short period of time. But, if your in a pinch and can't get any pH down solution, it will work. Your best bet would be to just get some pH down solution Secondly, i have heard that UV and UVB lights can be used to increase resin production. But really haven't seen any actual proof other than hearing people talk about it. This is a short tid-bit out of the Good Book...... "Ultraviolet light is supposed to promote more resin formation on buds. However, all known experiments that add artificial UV light in a controlled environment have proven that it does not make any difference." That is straight out of Jorge Cervantes' book. IMO, there is already a tremendous amount of resin production as it is. I would say scratch this idea.... Anywho, can't wait to see some more updated pics!! That mom has got to be a BEAST by now!!! Did your clones ever take root?? Hoping they did root for ya.....if not, just keep trying. You'll find a method that works and you'll be entering Clone City!!! Keep us posted bud. - 42o -
Allright then. I'll be going into town anyway, and I'll try to find pH down somewhere.. The nurseries are scattered and pet stores, hey, ppl all have DOGS over here =) Or I'll just order it I DID get a couple of clones to root. One died off (I know why!!), one has maybe 5 sets of leafs now, growing in my (new) veg-cab, third is still in the greenhouse, but looking great after a week! Just 10 minutes ago I switched the lights on MOM. It's a big day, so I'm celebrating with some Auchentoshan 13yo =) It's been a good 7 weeks now since I first germinated the seed, and I'm quite happy it's gone smooth so far. I managed to get a couple of pics with my girlfriends camera, and upped them here: http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2005504562173301789 Right now, I can count atleast 16 tops/budsites now, but I guess there's quite a few hiding where I can't see them ;-) 8 more weeks, and I'll be smokin grape figuring out where and what to grow next outdoor season!! PeAcE, and thanks for the support!
About UVB, I heard "Marijuana Man" talk about it on PotTV (youtube search UVB), and I remember the "talk on town" about THC being like a "UV shield" to protect the seeds.. I'd REALLY like to see the results from any and all tests ppl have attempted, so if you see any info around, I'll be glad to know (hmm.. maybe time for another thread?)
Alright!! That mom is looking excellent!! Great work my man. Thats really good news that you got some clones to root!! Now you can be an unstoppable cloning machine!! It's always nice to be able to clone some good ones for outdoor......then you don't have to worry bout pulling males If i find or notice any info or journals where people used UV lights ill definately post it up for ya. Hope ya don't mind but im goin to put one of those pics up so peeps don't have to click the link Keep up the good work my man, can't wait to see this beauty flowering!!
Well, been readin up a little bit more on the UV stuff last night, for those of you considering this, you should read, think and make up your own mind, but I'm going to buy shitloads of these lights come the next years.. I'll just post up my references here if anyone else may need them. I basically just googled it up, but anyway.. The PotTVshow that got me thinking: http://www.pot-tv.net/archive/shows/pottvshowse-4525.html The Green Mans Page on the subject of "An elaboration on the phytochemical process that makes marijuana THC": http://www.greenmanspage.com/guides/thc.html Some guy rambling about "the hoax" with UV light, maybe he's onto something, maybe not..: http://marijuanaoptics.fileave.com/0220decoy.pdf Anyway, the general consensus seem to be "More UVB (to some level) equals more THC", so like I said, it's going into my room. There are several people out there growing "like everyone does", with HPS, but with complementing UVB CFLs for more (potent) resin.. Again, I LOVE THE INTERNET =)
Hey man i hate to spoil on your parade.........but everything that i've found, when they're used in a controlled environment (indoors) ther is NO change. You may have found a few expert or seasoned growers that use this but there is NO proof to it. Im not trying to defer you in this subject at all, but everything i've found.....it does absolutely no good indoors. You'd be best saving your money and buying bubble buckets for hash......IMO it would be best to add another HID to your setup....that'll increase yields and potency.......IMO and experience, the extra UV and UVB do nothing for the plants when indoors.....from one grower to another....forget about it
I'd love to see those controlled environment tests if they're up somewhere, but I haven't found'em yet.. Neways, my budget had a sudden deviation, so Im stuck with what I got. Old lady's been on 12/12 for a week come tomorrow. It's showing a definitive female, and considering only 6 days have passed it seems to come along just fine. Not quite happy with the shape of it, but there's plenty of good big budsites and numerous smaller. I think I'll get what I want =) Charging the camera now, so pics'll have to wait until later on today!
Pics! 2 new pics, this is 6 days into flowering. nutes are 1/2 hesi soil, water every 2 days. One nice looking shot in the back, you can see it's def female This is the main stem top:
Small update again, we're on 2 week mark for flowering the Grape, and it's lookin good so far (it's really crowded in my space now . Not sure what to expect exactly either, as this is my first grow, and a strain I never before heard of =) It's starting to show some deficiencies on the lower fan leafs, but I'm too new to this to want to try anything different than just stay with the ferts I got (hesi soil flower) and flush every week. Couple of pics from yesterday, 13 days flowering. Zoom in good on these and you will se trichomes sparkle up all over! *happy* =) ..cont
Also, a pic from repotting the first clone from this mother. It was rooted in rockwool, and then transplanted to a small pot with soil. You can see it's quite root-bound, and indeed it's growing nicely. I'm going to LST it and then build a scrog frame to mount on the pot. I've got 6 weeks until the first grape is done and I can start flowering this one. I'm guessing this is plenty of time to get a nice scrog started. Oh, and I did get a 23W UV-bulb. Its hanging from the roof of by box just next to a couple of lower side branches. Going to be interesting to see the/any difference..
Don't know if anyone follows this thread still, but anyway, here's a couple of budshots from the 3 week mark for you to enjoy. No big problems so far, I might have burnt her a little bit this week, but will continue with the same nute levels I guess unless it shows some mayor burns.
I flower this one with a total of 83W LE over 3 bulbs, plus a 23W UVB bulb. Apart from my reflector(s) sucking, it's turning out pretty descent so far. 4 weeks tomorrow, halfway!
6 weeks today, and MAN is it looking yummy. Harvest is on Dec 13, so Christmas is going to be freakin awesome! =) Just one porn-shot now, as my camera battery was out..
 very nice....i cant wait to start my grow so i can get me some of that...only reason i havnt started is cause im goin away for christmas and can't leave it for two weeks...as soon as i get back though what strain is that?
