I looked at your age and did the math. I saw my first cheese show when you were....10. So it hasn't been pretty short. (I'm guessing they were a few years in whe I got on Bussy. Weird, I've never asked. I'll do that at Zilla.) I guess Billy has a better place to be. But he's touring Homeslice pretty hard.
yeah, theyve been around for a long while...i was living down the street from Mountain Sun in 94-95, and remember them playing there quite a few times during that period
umm the dead isn't a jamband? so what do you consider 20 minute long lovelights? or the scarlet into fire JAM? yeah, i think i'd say the dead is a jam band... with that being said, they are my favorite.
anyway... for my favorites.. grateful dead.. cornmeal.. sts9. the biscuits.. get umphrey's outta my face. and sadly enough, moe. too. they really let me down last year.
just saw those guys for the first time last weekend....it was alright...good at times, a little weird at times. they are definately excellent musicians, it just didnt grab me by the spine, ya know? i did have a really good time though, and i'd probably check 'em out again
Umphrey's just does something for me that I can't explain. I just can't get enough of them; seeing them live just blows me away. They're obviously not for everyone (as has been established on this board) - though I still find it hard to believe that someone could not like a song such as divisions. I've also been reallt into sts9, i just got their seasons 01 album and its amazing. I also just picked up panics most recent album Earth to America and im surprised how much I like it. panic hadnt been doing much for me recently but with the addition of jimmy herring and what ive bee hearing I have high hopes that they are going to turn around.
i''ve noticed that most umphrey's fans are 18 and under... just an observation. i was sort of into them a while back.. the attraction soon faded as i found better music.
and umphrey's is almost IMPOSSIBLE to groove to because they have so many breaks and rhythm changes in their songs.. the only people who can really groove to umphrey's are the people who know the songs by heart. when i go see live music, regardless of how well i know the band, i want to get into a grooove... not pause because the musicians want to put TONS of breaks into a song. it's fucking annoying!
Right now my favorite bands to listen to are, Perpetual Groove Lotus Pnuma Trio RAQ Particle I could name a hundred more, but these are who I've tended to stream the most lately on Archive.org Any Coloradoans out there going to the free shows at Copper Mountain? http://www.coppercolorado.com/todo/events/2007-04/index.htm?campaignid=0607_cm_emailnews_sunsationarticle_021407&crmcontact=1937048&crmevar=ROG_CM_NWS_01_E1_070214_DV I'm planning on seeing as many of these shows as I can make it too, but I wouldn't miss DSO/Lotus for anything. Any Wakarusians out there? www.wakarusa.com I'll be there, and trust me, security issues will be much better this year. Personally, I had no problems at all last year, and saw some of the best music I have EVER seen. I cant wait for this years fest to start! later ya'll Mellow
