I think the biggest difference between backcombing and t&r vs. neglect, is that the neglect dreads are more varied in size and sectioning. I happen to prefer dreads that are thinner and 'somewhat' uniform without loops, so I went with backcombing and twist and rip...to be honest though, the backcombing came undone and loosened up (still holding their sections) and then proceeded to do more or less, what neglect people experience. I don't really think the ends differ nearly as much as the means (other that what I stated above.)
You can't compare natural locks with backcombed/twist n rip. They're completely different, the only comparison can be made between backcombed and twist n rip. Here is the main difference: Natural = growing dreadlocks Backcombed/Twist n Rip = getting/making dreadlocks
I think my backcombed and twist and rip locks are pretty similar looking .....the natural one's are a little different, but not significantly so, after they smooth out.... they formed differently, but the result is pretty much the same.
Instalocks are perfect for all you obsessive impatient kids. Can't compare them to true neglect though. Takes time to lock in energy.
Right on. Growing locks is a spiritual process with requires patience, and to neglect it shows you truly deserve to wear them on your head, rather than just for the style
so does growing locks by backcombing or twist and rip. both methods they look like shit at first. mine are twist and rip, and for the first year at least, they did not look like dreads (for pictures look in the new year's progress thread) to me, it doesn't matter at all how you get your dreads, and saying it's a spiritual process as a blanket statement is simply untrue. the reasons behind getting dreads, and the process that they go through, is completely individual and different for each person, and to say that someone who doesn't think it's spiritual and just likes the look, or someone who chose to backcomb or t&r rather than neglect doesn't "deserve to wear them" is ridiculous.
what it comes down to is that there shouldn't be any elitism. it's a fucking hairstyle, like any other.
Let me get my shovel, and help with the exhumation. I would, and will, choose the same thing I already did once. Neglect. Only this time, I'll be doing a lot less seperating, and will have much fatter locks. Maybe some day, it will be a mono-lock, if I have the balls.... Though I'd probably cut it shortly after it got to that point, simply for washability. But I like the cycle of growing, I don't have a problem re-growing. I sort of miss the "why is that hobo in here?" looks....
Exhumation..?? I Beg To Differ, This One Died In 2009, The Body Is Not Even Cold..Two Threads Were Dug Up Today That Were Buried In 2004, And They Still Bounced Back To Life...:sunny: I Live In Hope That When I Finally Fall Off My Perch, Somebody Will Dig Me Back Up And Give Me A New Lease Of Life Too...:2thumbsup:.
