I think it was him I saw on TV earlier this week talking to Richard Dawkins, evolutionaty biologist, best selling author of 'The Selfish Gene' and 'The Blind Watchmaker', and prominent sceptic of religion. He's got a multi-million buck big 'worship centre' yes? He came over as a total asshole, who clearly knows absolutely nothing about evolutionary theory, despite his pathetic attempts at criticism. - Dawkins kept a straight face, but afterwards, depite Robertson's comments that the atmosphere in his church was like a 'rock concert' said it reminded him more of one of the nuremburg rallies. I am inclined in this to agree with Dawkins. Robertson clearly didn't like him - I think he found him too clever, and we all know God hates clever people don't we. Or indeed,to judge by Mr.R, anyone who thinks much at all. The programme was called 'The Root of All Evil' and may be available on the BBC website. Not sure.Later on Dawkins went to Jerusalem, where he met a Jewish convert to Islam who was even worse.
You see, if something is taken out of context it might something totally different, as it does now. Being a friend to all means that a true vaishnava tolerates everyone, because he knows that ultimately it is Sri Krishna who seated in everyone's heart and he is taking care of everyone. So the devotee is a friend to all because he tolerates them and knows that God is taking care of everyone, Ultimately.
He has a very good show , the 700 club....but he tries to bring religion in to politics--something that is going to stir alot of trouble.
Very magnanamous I'm sure - but what choice would they have anyway but to tolerate others? Here's a couple of extracts from SP's Gita Commentary 'A devotee of Krsna is friendly to everyone. Therefore it is said here that he has no enemy. How is this? A devotee situated in Krsna consciousness knows that only devotional service to Krsna can relieve a person from all the problems of life. He has personal experience of this, and therefore he wants to introduce this system, Krsna consciousness, into human society. There are many examples in history of devotees of the Lord risking their lives for the spreading of God consciousness. The favorite example is Lord Jesus Christ. He was crucified by the nondevotees, but he sacrificed his life for spreading God consciousness. Of course, it would be superficial to understand that he was killed. Similarly, in India also there are many examples, such as Thakura Haridasa. Why such risk? Because they wanted to spread Krsna consciousness, and it is difficult.' BG CH 11, vs 55. 'But the devotees of the Lord are more kind than the Lord because they understand the purpose of the Lord. Consequently they undertake all kinds of risks, even to the point of approaching ignorant men to try to engage them in the acts of Krsna consciousness, which are absolutely necessary for the human being. ' BG CH3, VS 29. These quotes seem to illustrate that devotees should be focused on helping others through spreading Krishna Consciousness.
Krishna consciousness is all well and good but one needs to first surrender completely to actually be truly krishna conscious, with out being "krishna conscious" you will just be preaching your own mental concoctions.
yeah, but that humble trip could be a massive ego trip... Like this monk walking around thinking, "wow Im humbler then a blade of grass" Just a massive ego trip about being humble... and I know from experience, because Ive been on plenty of ego trips, some psychotic... including the humbler then a piece of grass trip.. maya's brillaint art. Note: They all taught me to laugh at my ego, and not take my ego of my ego's suffering seriously... thus were all valuable gifts from the one consciousness to this small part of itself. call it krishna if you prefer. Not to disgress, my point is this... A being humbler then a blade of grass never thinks itself humbler then a blade of grass... it just IS, doing its thing.
The quote given refers to 'Devotees'. It's about 'a devotee situated in Krishna Consciousness'. To be so situated implies one has surrendered to Krishna.
But I would say if the monk is wandering around thinking that, he's not actually being humbler than a blade of grass. True modesty is not an easy thing - it can only come with time. It is not really about thinking so much as underlying attitude.
yeah, its soo funny, I was using his cartoons in the buddhist forum, but the humor seemed to escape our own monk Darrel, who even has a bald head and wears the robes... He's a fundemendalist buddhist... ahh, fundemenatlist in every religion just ruin the message.
