Hii there! My name's Chelsea, nice to meet you. 1. It depends. At your age, you'll probably face some sort of conflict, because that's just the nature of kids today around your age. My sisters are 13, they go to school with a bunch of animals. As you get older, though, these things get easier. I used to get made fun of for thinking for myself, hell, even for wearing vests or whatnot, back in like 8th grade. Now I've got lots of liberal teachers, very philosophical folks, and lots of my class mates are tolerant, if not on the same page. Just be true to yourself. 2. Buddhism is what you make it, as my Spanish teacher says. Some people follow only certain aspects of buddhism, like only meditating. It's a very interesting philosophy, and I suggest you look into it. Find someone who can teach you to meditate correctly, and it'll make a world of difference in your life. 3. I used to identify with a straight-edge mentality, but looking back, its a bit too extreme for my tastes. I'm not saying ahrdcore drug use is acceptable, either. I personally abstain from most substances (save caffeine and the odd sleeping pill). I like being able to control my mind, so I doubt I'll even get too heavily into drugs in the future. But yes yes yes, pot should be legal. 4. "Hippie dress" is what you want it to be, man. Dress how you feel on the inside. To me, bright colors make all the difference. There's nothing like a bright pink or purple or tye dye to brighten my mood. Trying making your own stuff, or going to thrift stores. I've found some awesome stuff in thrift stores, but its hit or miss. It's not the clothes that matters, its the person in the clothes. 5. Writing is always awesome! I'm a writer myself. By all means, write as much as you can. Find a social issue that you care about and write write write about it! Social commentaries are always awesome... think "Super-size Me." Creative pieces can be fun as well, and can help you grow as a person. Can you play an instrument? That's always good. 6. I don't do sports, aside from what's required in gym class. I like lifting weights, though. It builds muscle, and that's always good, physically and aesthetically. I love love LOVE Dance Dance Revolution. And long walks in the forest are always good. 7. Nothing is required, man. Vegetarianism is crazy healthy and ecologically sound, but its a personal choice. I'm a vegan myself, but that's not always the best choice for everyone. 8. Just be yourself! =) I hope I helped... any questions, PM me.
Thanks alot, there are some great people here. I play Alto Saxophone pretty well, is there anything I can do with that?
Uh... do you like to rev your van or are you actually a reverend of some sort... who goes by the name of Van? (my guess would be latter, from the quote)
to the dude who asked the questions, the ultimate "hippie clothes" are the ones that reflect yourself, hippies stand for individuality.
So do individuals, unfortunately, marketing to mass levels of consumers doesn't help, but life goes on.
1. no matter who you are, prep, jock, hippie, goth, etc....you WILL be ridiculed and scrutinized. My advice to you, young man(oh, I hated 13) is to be you....and be unapoligetic of who you are. 2. your spiritual beliefs cannot be told by others. Again, be YOU. Follow what you believe to be true and right.(I personally would go the Buddhist route) your Catholic...there's hope for you yet!! (its a joke, so any catholics, please take no offense) 3. drug use is a personal decision. There are those who cant handle it, and those who thrive from it....again, it is up to you. But yes, I believe in decriminalization and regulation(you are 13, you have a ways to go!!) 4. "hippie dress" is all up to the induvdual....be YOU!!! (are you noticing a pattern here?) 5. helping the community.....open up any paper and look for the volunteer section....they are ALWAYS looking for good help....this part should be easy 6. competitive sports....nothing wrong with them if you keep your head straight...no cocky egos, over-competitiveness. As for myself, I surf and that can be competitive. But it is an isolated sport.....meaning, you can surf with 100 people in one spot, but you are ALONE. you are responsible for yourslef. It is also the most spiritual activity i have ever taken part in.....its the olny time where im in the moment, me, the ocean, the animals around me, the sun, the moon..that specific time. I get a lot of meditating done out there....I could go on.... 7. hell no it is not required....i know a good many hippies that love their steak and bacon, etc...again, this is a personal decision. 8. BE YOU and you wont be wrong.....good luck to you....you do have a ways to go. Trust me...the older you get, the more assured you will be with who you are. It gets better.
I can as of right now answer only questions 3, 7, and 8. For #3 I don't do drugs I never have and probably never will but just because I don't do them doesn't mean that everyone else can't it's their body not mine. #7 I don't know if vegetarianism is required I myself am not one but who knows. #8 Just go with yourself man and be yourself because they are either going to accept you or they aint it's all a matter of time. Anything else hit me back Peace!! Welcome
