Haven't heard any music of the Southern Comfort blues band, but I know some of them are on this forum I dig the Heads as well, man! Very loud and aggresive psych, though. Not for everyone I guess.
Some really good psychedelic space rock bands: Mr. Quimby's Beard. I recommend their Definitive unsolved mysteries album the most. It's superb . Listen to the song Darkness here: http://www.myspace.com/quimbysbeard They also did a mad version of A saucerful of secrets. If you thought you digged the original, you have to listen to the Beard's version! Farflung - 25,000 feet per second is one of my absolute favourite albums to chill out to. I guarantee it gets you floating in space, especially the 15 minute trip Landing on Cydonia. I also recommend their album The myth of solid ground very much.
We're only in it for the space rock. Haha, that says it all doesn't it. Check out this album by the First band from outer space. Their other stuff is worth checking out as well! Check the great song Novaja Zemelja out of their last album, it's listenable here: http://www.myspace.com/firstbandfromouterspace Alright, another great band (especially live!) is Siena Root. No space rock here, pure rock 'n roll with a psychedelic edge, baby! Get their album Kaleidoscope!
I know Michelle the singer thru Myspace and the Janis Joplin forum....very cool lady! The band has a Myspace page and a website too.
I'm not really into them, checked out an album of them awhile ago. But if you dig them, you maybe like Causa Sui as well. Saw them live last Roadburn and they have an amazing heavy psych rock album released already. http://www.myspace.com/causasui
Here's the link to Siena Root's myspace by the way, they're making fantastic rock!: www.myspace.com/sienaroot Another band that began really impressive, but unfortunately I heard some rumours about they've split up.. Spaceship Landing! They named their band after a Kyuss song, so there obviously are some stoner influences (heavy bass, slow riffs), but it also have some 70's garage rock and space rock elements in it. You can listen to their show at Roadburn on this link (with a realplayer plugin, very easy downloadable via this link as well): http://3voor12.vpro.nl/speler/ondemand/28070813 Enjoy! You also should check out their debut Spaceship Landing, it's more uptight and heavier space/stoner rock then this show. Recommended!
EARTHLESS are the only new "psychedelic" band that really grip me. so much so in fact that I'm going to listen to them right now.
If you dig Earthless you should try Orange Sunshine's albums Homo erectus and Love = acid, space = hell as well!
Hey guise! I love psychrock to death and I'm in for something new. But I don't know which of these bands are really my style. I'm interested mostly in the really spacy, trippy kind of psychedelic rock, not too tame or poppy and not too heavy/bluesy/stonerish either (sorry Tjabbert)... more like early Grateful Dead or Jefferson Airplane. Or Ozric Tentacles, but maybe less electronic. Something soundscape-ish, something that takes your brain on a journey. So... which of these mentioned bands are something for me? Do you know any other bands I might love? Thanks in advance, people.
Spacey, soundscape-ish, less electronic and not too heavy: Farflung - 25,000 feet per second, Liquid Sound Company - Exploring the psychedelic, Oresund Space Collective, some First band from outer space, Red Stoner Sun - El paso vol.2, Gas Giant - May-june 2003 jams, The Great Escape - Escape from reality.
