A NEW WOODSTOCK (similar to the original "1969" version)? Sounds cool!!! It's possible, but not very probable. However, the universe operates in cycles, and history does repeat itself (although not exactly in the same way). If anyone is planning to create a WOODSTOCK 2009, or something similar, I'll provide some things to consider:

The original "1969" WOODSTOCK was a planned, commercial event, but as you well know, unplanned things happened, such as: a larger number people (than expected) showed up, the fence boundries were broken down (so that it turned into a "free concert"), it rained and people had "fun" in the mud and adequet food, water and toilets were lacking. In short, it was a spontaneously-created event.

90% of the WOODSTOCKER's were using marijuana and/or LSD, which are more "introspective" drugs, than alcohol and speed (which can make people more aggressisive and mean). Alcohol suppresses the brain's higher intellectual functions, which brings out more "animalistic" functions, such as sex and fighting. METH ("speed") makes people crazy and violent, plus causes brain damage (if abused heavily).

WOODSTOCK 1994 was closer to the original, than the later, WOODSTOCK 1999 version. WOODSTOCK 1994 was in a more "natural" setting, had many "original WOODSTOCK 1969" performers and had more "peaceful" music groups.

WOODSTOCK 1999 was in a less natural setting (by some Air Force base, or something), was too "expensive" and "commercialized", had many "cool" bands, but were more "punky" and aggressive, had much more alcohol consumption (than the original) and ended in a punk rock frenzy. Although, the stages' psychedlic artwork was cool!!! I purchased a piece of this artwork on ebay!!!

WOODSTOCK 1999 should've been called: PUNKFEST 1999, instead. I lived in the new wave/punk 80's, too! Many cool newwave/punk bands, but not WOODSTOCK material, which should be: being peaceful, relaxing, introspective and psychedelic.

What happened to WOODSTOCK 2004? It never really happened, although there were attempts to make it happen. Check out the following 2 links, on people who tried to make a WOODSTOCK 2004 happen:

If something like the "original" WOODSTOCK 1969 happened in the future, it would be "spontaneous", and not "planned". It really shouldn't be called WOODSTOCK (due to legal hassles). It could be called: PINEFOREST --- 3 DAYS OF PEACE, TRANQUILITY AND TRANSCEDENTAL MUSIC (OR "PSYCHEDELIC" MUSIC), or some other "nature" sounding name. It also has to be in a nice, natural setting.

There are two concert/camping events that are very similar to a WOODSTOCK 1969 "experience", that are spoken well of, under the: EVENTS AND FESTIVALS categories of HIPFORUMS, in a few threads. I haven't been to either of them, as I just learned of them, last month! They are as follows:

From posters on these HIPFORUMS, both are cool WOODSTOCK-type of experiences, although with less people and less well known bands (but still good). What a KAWINKYDINK, they're both on PRIVATE ranches!!! The original WOODSTOCK 1969 was on a PRIVATE diary farm (MAX YASGUR's diary farm)!

The "true" WOODSTOCK 1969 "experience" is about spontaneity, a "communal" brotherhood feeling ("we are all one"), listening to cool music, enjoying nature and friends, mind expansion (if desired) and just having FUN!!! If it's "planned" or "commercial", it's not WOODSTOCK! It's a state of mind. 10KLF and PEACEFEST can be very WOODSTOCKY.

When the hippies broke the WOODSTOCK 1969 fence down and conditions seemed to be "uncontrollable", New York Governor Rockefeller almost called out the NATIONAL GUARD!!! What do you expect of someone with NAZI ties? So, if the samething happened today, the BUSHIES (also with strong NAZI ties), would label them "terrorists" and the NATIONAL GUARD (or FEMA) would be called out!!! The New World Order (fascists) cannot stand freedom and independence! So that would be your fate, if you "crashed" a concert, today. Not a good idea! "Concert crashing" is not what WOODSTOCK 1969 was about!

OPPS! I'm posting in the YOUNG HIPPIES section, but then, young hippies post in the old hippies section. It's all about learning new things, though. I just want to provide some useful information, to those who want it. I got a coffee cup for my birthday (from my sister, a few years ago), which states: "Im not old! I'm a recycled teenager." Luckily, I still have a thin, teenager body and much hair, but it's time for me to go back to the OLD farts HIPPIE section. See ya!

3 years to WOODSTOCK 2009? It could happen. We create our own realties. Help to create it. It can never be like the original, but it doesn't have to be!
It just has to be FUN!!!

there was a woodstock '99...there have been several "other" woodstocks but how can u redo woodstock seeing as half of the artists of the original r dead...it will nvr be the same

But the thing people don't understand is that we already had our generation's woodstock.

I don't see any point in another Woodstock.

When we hear that word, images are conjured up in our minds of that famous 3-day event in 1969, hippies and "love and peace". Generally, we don't think of any other Woodstock that has happened since, do we? No matter what happens, any "Woodstock" created in this day and age would be so different to the original, why would anyone dare to even call it by that name? Unless it was a cynical ploy to develop some kind of "brand" and make money off it, I would think.

I'm sorry but no-one will EVER recreate the spirit of Woodstock '69. It's impossible. We are (sadly) in too different a time and place for that.

I would love nothing more than the new woodstock, sadly with this foolish business about some sort of war on drugs im afraid that anything remotely like the original thing would go very bad, very quickly...I dont know though, we can live in hope! There are lots of festivals happening these days though, summer solstice at stonehenge, glastonbury and even Reading or Download (yeah I come from the UK guys ...) theyre all pretty fun, with their fare share of drugs, nakedness, sleeping outdoors and generall gathering of likeminded people...And greengirl, I agree, we NEED SOUL REBELS!!!

 

if anyone wanted a festival similar to woodstock, which i dont know why they dont just go to another festival, just make it in amsterdam if your worried about getting busted by the cops
