it's hard to find something as relaxing , and expressive too , as drake's music . he really does have the voice of an angel and his words are unforgetable . i'm very , very fond of "fruit tree" , the first song of drake that i've ever heard , a slow , in a way painfull song , that seems to transform each time i listen to it . "Life is but a memory Happened long ago. Theatre full of sadness For a long forgotten show. Seems so easy Just to let it go on by Till you stop and wonder Why you never wondered why." other songs i like ( no need to mention he has no song that i don't enjoy ) are : time has told me , pink moon , fly , river man , cello song and been smoking too long ( that , by the way , doesn't seem too drakeish to me )
I'd despaired at not finding any artist to rank along Nick Drake till I heard the scot Shelagh Macdonald, who emerged at a time contemporary to Drake. Her original tracks are beautiful folk-pop songs which are less jazzy & more folky, and seem to be written by someone who shares that same yearning, poetical, aesthetic Drake has. She has a soaring, sweet voice, and on some tracks uses the same string arranger as Drake. Hers is a story of a lost (as in missing, feared deceased), folk luminary which has a happy ending. A double CD of her only 2 albums is available.
