hey hadley chick...you did what was right for you and don't let someome else make you feel bad as it was not what was right for them....all children are different and each of the persons responses posted here are just a sample of the mothering experiences that you might expect to find in the world..some better...some worse...but all ultimately right...cause there is not really a wrong way unless you are being abusive....and it did not sound at all like you were being so, it sounded like you were dealing with a particularly strong willed child and found the way through it...does sound like your husband needs to talk to a few more fathers and find out about their experiences though, this might make hm go easer on you and the bubba...

good luck with the two year old stuff is all I am thinking!!!
    :)

Thanks for the response. Maggiesugar was right about being sensitive to the needs of babies. But what I did felt like what I needed to do at the time. I'm a single mommy for now, but just got engaged! Yay.

apparently he didn't starve to death so you must have done SOMETHING right. and i'm sure he still loves you, and you still love him, right? i weaned my oldest son before he decided he was done with me, he's 12 now with no obvious psychological trauma - he's the best kid, and we are very 'attached'. i worked outside the home too and i know how hard it is to work full time on less energy. and it's not like you can drink a pot of coffee, or one of those 'mad energy' drinks - who needs a baby on mad energy???

by the time they are 18/24 months they are very egocentric and it's not even a matter of nourishment - too bad he didn't have a woobie, to help him get over the boobie! lol!!

stephaniesomewhere, what's a dummy? (besides me) i've never heard that phrase- is it a pacifier or a fake boob?

A "dummy" is a British or Canadian word for pacifier.

Well, for one, when they are ready, there is NO work and no crying to the weaning, it just happens.

I can certainly empathise with being exhausted. I can't understand the need to let them cry "hysterically for weeks" I hope you were exagerating. Cutting back, getting a "big boy bed" to make a little physical distance, saying "in a few minutes", back rubs ect are all good ways to help cut back, if you need some space.

I don't expect every one to nurse for 4.5 years, just respect the baby's needs, while weaning is going on. A baby who pitches a fit, when denied the breast, ISN'T being a brat, he is feeling VERY sad. Giving in, IMO, is better than a sad baby. (Your feelings are more fixable and controlable than his, at your respective ages.)

Respect the baby as human, was my main point.

I am surprised no one has made these things yet. "HEY, mamas, no reason to be with your kid, ever, buy the new NEOMAMA!";) LOL!
