Lord, who knows! In WV we are REALLY bing sold out. Our coal, our oil and gas, our timber (altho many timber companies are going belly up due to CHEAPER timber being "harvested" in other countries. They want to open SEVERAL more LANDFILLS here for OUT OF STATE garbage, Some of our BIGGEST tourist stuff is being bought up by outsiders too. And now there are rumblings of a high power electric line to cross the state, and of course with it comes people's land being taken (eminent domain) for the right of way. Then you also have what may be one of the most corrupt legal systems in this part of the country (or maybe not...) But, HILLBILLIES RULE! Everybody may be so poor they can't afford to turn around, while big biz rapes and plunders (with the GOVERNORS blessing by the way), but they're some of the finest and hardest core folks around, and I'd be HAPPY to have some of the WILDEST of the bunch watch MY back in the event of "emergency". And those hillbillies WILL NOT GIVE UP THEIR GUNS either! I think while the rest of the world is having a HARD time, we will just go farther out into the woods and keep on surviving. We also have some SERIOUS environmentalists who know a thing or two and they KICK ASS...
No shortage of garbage in this country, that's gotta be one of our fastest growing industries. Meanwhile, everything else is shrinking, pretty sad. When the shit really hits the fan and we're all sold out, it's those with the survival skills (the hillbillies), who are able to make do in a primitive environment, they'll be the survivors. A lot of rich people will be screwed along with the rest of us, 'cause the way things are going, fewer and fewer people are getting bigger and bigger slices of the pie, while the majority of us are ending up with less and less. I don't see how this can go on much longer without a massive revolution.
I remember when a Japanese Company bought Rockefeller Center, NYC in the late 80's and people Freaked. But hey, they couldn't tow it back to Japan and guess what, they bought the property at the top of the 80's real estate bubble, sound familiar? They got ripped off and sold it for a loss in the 90's. If Corporations are so bad, why is everybody cheering everytime a big subsidy bill gets voted on: Ethanol: huge subsidy to agribuiseness and Archer Daniels Midland ( Hi there Seantor Bob Dole ) Stem Cell Research: huge subsidy to big Pharma. These Pharmacitucal ( did I spell that right ? ) Companies are just rolling in dough and dont need my subsidy. Yeah Christopher Reeve and Michael Fox, you don't fool me. These companies can just borrow or issue stock, they don't need my tax money. I could go on Highway bill, Energy bill. in New Jersey our Govenor wanted to borrow millions to build 6 stem cell labs in a State that is dominated by Companies like Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Mereck, Lever Bros, Hoffman LaRoche. Thank god the bill was voted down we have enough big Pharma labs without the goverment launching state funded enterprises to compete with them. Now I hear that The State is broke and we need to boost tolls on our highways so that the Govenor can sell the highway to a company! If we are so broke, why did you want to borrow money to build labrotories? Don't worry about China selling US Treasuries, they would only screw themselves by devaluing thier holdings by selling into a declining market. Then who would purchase thier exports? They have done it to themselves by keeping the value of the Yuan currency artifically low.
I'm not cheering. I'm not cheering at all. I'm opposed to genetically altered foodstuffs. I support ethanol but biodiesel and WVO are more environmentally sound. I support stem cell research but WTF are the Pharms doing getting involved? That would indicate that once it is perfected, cloning would be involved, (synthesizing human chemical components at the very least) and that's not going to happen. As for China, it's not so much that they would foreclose on the US, it's that thy could. I don't like our country dangling on a string being held by a bully that survives on authoritarian rule and slave labor. And I have to go to Atlantic City on Sunday to pick up a package. Tolls went up??? Great...
Why is everyone bashing China? Did big Brother tell you this?INGOC It's your own fault for not doing anything about this shit. All you do is post shit and whine, you should be striking and protesting your system. America is only as strong as it's people.
I'm not bashing China. I'm bashing the current administration for pawning out our country to finance an immoral war.
Agreed. China's not the problem. It's our government selling us out to China that's the problem. And what pisses me off is we don't seem to have a choice in the matter, other than reading the labels of the stuff we buy, assuming the "made in China" label's on there, and boycotting the stuff made there, which I do my best to do, but it's tough sometimes when I can't even find something I need that's not made in China. Then you see that if it's made in China, it's like half the price of the same thing that's made anywhere else, and it's tough to do right, but you gotta bite the bullet. We can't sustain ourselves based on a house of cards. We need to get back to manufacturing our own goods, lest we relinquish ourselves to indentured servitude.
I'm not knocking international trade, but maybe if you spend a few years working and living in the US, watching the manufacturing and high tech jobs disappear while the corporations that your tax dollars support outsource those jobs to foreign workers, you'll see what I mean. Any country that consumes more than it produces cannot sustain itself.
It does not matter what we do or how we vote, our elected officials are all paid off by big buisness. They do what they want regardless of what we think or want. I swear some of you people out there just don't get it. I will never fucking vote or have any kind of involvement with government, history has proven it does not matter what way you vote or how you feel in the end things just keep getting worse and it will continue to do so until the wealthy end up with it all and the poor people become litteraly there slaves. We are screwed no matter what we do! As for the hillbillies, they will be good for a little while longer until there trees are cut down and they are illegally forced off there land to make way for more big buisness by crooked government sceames and they won't even have a chance of defending themselves against the government and it's military force. We will all be screwd in the end. So don't you tell me it's all our fault because it's NOT!
The short memories of American voters is what keeps these politicians in office. So you have given up?Thats what the corporate system wants.I can't help but play Creams "Politician".
Our politicians are paid for by big business, but when did we give up all control? By throwing up your hands and saying my vote has no power, they gain even more control. We need to continue to ask questions and demand answers. You can go and hide under the blankets, or you can stand up. It always matters what each individual does, don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. Your actions have meaning. Your life has meaning. Don't be marketed that global warming is going to wipe out the world but your life doesn't matter. If that was true they wouldn't be pushing the new light bulbs so hard.
Sure they do, but WE put them there. Every time you fill up at the gas station, you can be sure of that. If everyone in the US refused to drive their cars for a day, it would cripple our economy. The fat cats on Wall Street would be toppled, and of course anyone vested in a retirement could kiss it good bye. My point is, while I agree our elected officials are merely puppets of big business, big business merely reflects what WE the people demand, in terms of what we buy. If we change our consumer spending habits, we can influence big business, which will in turn influence our politicians, but we won't make any progress until a majority of us take on this responsibility, and respond accordingly.
Think globally, buy locally. You might pay more for stuff made in the US, but it's worth it in the long run. It's also possible that if the cost of oil gets high enough, we may be forced to do the right thing, 'cause anything that's shipped from other countries will become more expensive due to fuel costs, even if it's made in sweat shops by low paid workers.
You are right. The government doesnt give a shit about us. They are only interested in getting what they can to put in their big gov't piggie bank and the hell with us. Totally F'ed up!
the usa corporation not only hire child-labour in china, they also hire gangsters to beat up chinese competitors .
