First of all, nice move on the splicing. Good thing you didn't get busted. Second, tell your mom to check the AM stations, they all have at least one christian one. Then you can cancel your cable and start saving money.
Yeah, one of the things I hate about the ads in today's world is the misandry. Almost every commercial involves how stupid this man is and how lucky he is to have his wife/female co-worker/ whatever female there to help him out, because ofcourse he's still dragging his fists 'n all! And ofcourse dad is too stupid to understand anything in the house, so his 12 year old kids have to show him how to do it. I once saw a commercial where the dad said "family hug!" and the kids run to the mom, no one including dad, and he just looks into the camera with this stupid face like " haha, I'm just dad." Man, it's sick. Did you also notice that not only are females off limit, but latinos and blacks are also? I'm not racist, but it's funny to me that the only acceptable target today is a grown, white male. Baaaa Humbug!
Hey, its about time, its our turn to take some, we have dished it out for centuries. I have seen a few adds that poke fun at mental disorders and suicide, like one for photocopiers where the brand x salesman talks the suicidal buyer off the ledge by extolling the virtues of his copier. Now that is twisted.
I'm only 19, but as far as I can remember, never on television have women been made out to be mongoloids or neanderthals. Even in the sixties and the seventies it was off limits to portray a woman as a hopeless mental defective. It's our turn? Yes, there's some inequality in the workplace, even still so today, but that doesn't justify men being made out to be retards. If you're going to make people out to be idiots, atleast level the playing field. Don't try to tell me that women have ever been treated the way men are being treated today on television. A good attest to this fact is that most people know what misogyny means, nearly none of the people I talk to know what misandry means. It's disgusting to me. Ofcourse, women are just so oppressed in today's world. Let's go make a commercial showing a woman falling off of a ladder while trying to clean the gutters, another woman inside fucking up the oven while trying to fix it, her sister downstairs fumbling with the computer having her husband ask her "didn't you read that manual: Computers for morons?" and let us have her saying "durr, I didn't understand it, durrrrr". No, that wouldn't fly, women's libber groups would have it thrown off the air! Equality is a semantics argument, simple as that. In the words of Bill Maher, this country has taken on the values of the female.
haha, I had to know you'd split hairs with me. Mongoloid has 3 different meanings. I didn't mean Asian... I meant retar--downs syndrome afflicted. But, beyond any of the semantics arguments,... let me give you some "homework" that you can choose to take or not. Watch T.V . for 2 hours, and document how many commericials degrade men. You'll see about 5 atleast.
Well, I wasn't arguing that point, I agree, they always show us to be idiots, with the wife always being know-it-all and showing her dumb husband how to use his cell phone.
I watch tv about twice a year it just depresses me especially the news its all controlling politcal correct bullshit .... however there are exceptions occasional there is something watchable (films/cartoons/documentaries) mainly. Sorry not to offend anyone that likes to plug-in to their "wonder boxes of magic" but TV sucks more than Bush (the wanker not the good kind) Peace Love and please dont mame me
Yeah, taking yourself off of T.V. is a good thing. It's one less bill to pay. I'd do it if it weren't for Comedy Central, Cartoon Network and the I.F.C.
I watch tons of TV. I would be fine without it but, there is nothing else for me to do. I wanted to get a new skateboard but it's so fuckin hard to rack up $150 for a good one when you can't get a friggin job. No one likes to hire under 16, and if your a guy noone trusts you so it lowers your chances. Anyway I think TV is good and there is no reason to stop watching unless you get addicted to the damn thing. I could (and have) watch TV for about 16 hours before getting sick of it but, I can alos go months with out it if I have something else to do.
I forgot to ask why you people are so against TV. It is just like a book only it goes much faster and you can see stuff. What's wrong with TV?
I have recently slowed down watching tv. I dont do it as often and when I do its usually backround noise.
It's not at all like a book. Unlike a book, you have a very small number of channels (even 200 is fairly small), and on those channels, an even smaller number of options at that one hour. You can choose what book you want to read. There are millions of intellectual books you can choose, and unlike channels, you can choose to read philosophers, autobiographies, anything you want. You won't see much of that on television, and even when the Discovery channel shows it, it's never as indepth as you'd get with a book. Television is generally intellectually void. I have more respect for myself than to watch a bunch of fat people cry because they can't lose weight, or to watch an idiot eat coagulated bull testicles. Unlike television, I can go out right now and pick someone else's brain, someone much more intelligent than myself. How? Simply by reading their works. Whoever wanted to pick Joe Rogan's brain? Generally I can only stand short bursts of mind-numbing stupidity. If you don't really care about improving yourself intellectually, and you have little or no self-respect, television is a great way to go!
Gradully, as I've gotten older, I've started watching less and less TV. There are shows which I always try to see if I can (such as Stargate, HIGNFY, QI, etc..), but I hardly ever just sit and watch TV... I can't think of a quicker way to kill your brain cells... Mind you, while i'm not watching TV... I do spend a lot of time in front of my computer.. which could be just as bad
We completely quit watching tv a little over a year ago and don't have one in our home. At first it was hard but now we actually have a lot more going on in our lives than ever before. I find myself less afraid when I don't hear the newscasters telling me how "bad" things are on a daily basis. There are many other more reliable sources to get the news from. I have read so many books and I play guitar everyday. We started sailing and taking long hikes with our dogs in the woods. I wish we would have done it long ago. We still watch movies on our PC's Dvd player when we want too. And I love that I'm not bombarded by advertisers anymore. I really think it's a great first step if you want to see some changes in your life.
