Socrates never debated anyone. All he would have done is ask questions about anything Chomsky said and made him look like the over educated fool he is. He was the original western anti-establishment philosopher which is why they killed him. His questions and jokes were aimed at teaching peasants how to think for themselves and organize which is the one thing the powerful and wealthy establishment could not tolerate, while Chomsky is only interested in feeding intellectuals more arguments to attack right wing politics and anything that doesn't support his own views. Of course, all those intellectual arguments have never done anyone a damned bit of good. Trump is evidence of just how meaningless intellectual arguments are in American politics where one in five people insists the sun revolves around the earth.
Russia and the Syrian Army seem to be doing just fine. Notice how they rid the Rebels quickly without the US involvement of late. https://www.rt.com/news/368400-east-aleppo-civilians-liberated/ But then there is this https://www.rt.com/news/368425-kerry-syrian-rebels-trump/
Okay fair point. But I think Militant Islam and terrorism won't just go away with this, and that in the future it will good if the U.S. and Russia would work together in cooperation with common policy. In fact so much would be better for the World if so.That's one of the main reasons I so dislike Hillary for her hawkish and unnecessary anti-Russion rhetoric.I am not from U.S. so I understand if you would rather not get your country involved in this kind of thing altogether.
I hear Trump may cut food stamps, aka EBT. The Marxists I know are professional people or children of professional people. The anarchists I know are similar, one owning a big house. I doubt any of them have ever spent a night in a homeles shelter. Etc. As for Chomsky, I value what he says, even though I disagree with some of it.
SoftKiss, I ask with all due respect and some humor: are you one of Putin's legendery trolls? Yes, it is ironic that we may be safer from war with that other nation led by a strange blonde haired man
Both sides are merely attempting to make different bargains with the devil, but Trump will either get what he wants or make Russia regret their choice by putting pressure on them to return to the bargaining table. He has no choice in the matter because cheap gas is what makes his world go round and his constituents will raise hell if Syria stops exporting oil at rock bottom prices. Either he'll have to invade or he'll bring Russia back to the bargaining table with something juicy or someone may execute his ass which is the one thing he's never risked in his life.
Russia has no wealth generation other than holes in the ground. They killed off or exiled all their talent and creativity. Researching the brain exodus going on today, I see Russia is still losing good people, such as scientists. Demographically it is little to worry about. Economically, not much either. Its GDP is only 10% greater than Mexico's. Not to wish it any ill will. BTW, I see Trump may actually appoint a few bright people. Marine Corps. General Moffit may become Defense Secretary, and General Petraeous may become Secretary of State. Betsy DeVos is a nutter. As Secretary of Education she will dismantle K-12 public education. Turning it over to patriarchal religion and banks.
Irminsul said:The only thing I really wanna know is.... What sorta name is "Noam" anyway? ************************************************************** Interesting that there's such a reaction to the guy's name. Noam a fairly common Jewish name. It means "pleasantness" in Hebrew. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam Is that the problem? He's a Jew?
Brains don't matter in global economics which is why the US simply imports all the talent it requires in order to suppress the wages of groups such as computer programmers. The rock and roll band, "Queen" got started because they were all over-educated PHds and couldn't find work in their fields. When the Soviet Union fell apart some 11,000,000 Jews immediately fled to Israel where they had physicists sweeping streets because there simply was not enough work for them. That's how empires are run, by controlling the distribution of goods and services and having a glut of talent on the market guarantees low prices. Instead, the principle applies of "Build it and they will come". Russia has all the infrastructure and talent to compete with Chinese sweatshops and others. If they can start competing on the sweat shop level they can build up smaller industries and eventually produce more expensive items just as China is doing today having, more or less, come to dominate the electronics industry and now making serious advances towards automobiles. Build it and they will come because some 90% of the world economy is pure speculation with the last ten percent actually accounting for all the material goods, infrastructure, etc. That's why China has so many empty skyscrapers today and keeps building more. Without more high tech industry Putin might as piss in the wind as dream of recreating the empire.
An accusation wrapped in a question. What's up with that? Are you on a hunt? My first thought concerning the reason for these posters' reaction to the name "Noam" is that it sounds exactly like the word "gnome." But you jumped to the baseless conclusion that their intent was anti-Semitic. You owe them an apology.
Maybe it's just different or foreign sounding and they're used to conventional names. I'll take back any implications of Anti-Semitism. it just seems odd to me that they'd make so much about a name that's unfamiliar to them. Nothing said about the merits or demerits of his views. I personally disagree with most of them, but I at least respect his intellect. He's best known as a linguist, analytical philosopher and cognitive scientist, but he's also an anarchist and was a prominent opponent of the War in Vietnam. I've heard him talk and he's boring as hell, but I wouldn't dismiss him lightly. And all we can say about him is his name sounds like gnome? Now as for Reince Priebus...
So it seems odd to you that they made a comment about an unconventional name. Fair enough. But it seems odd to me that you would use their comments as occasion to imply that anti-Semitism was behind their comments.
Actually, mindless would be the better word. I do apologize for any implications of Anti-Semitism, but it seemed a plausible explanation for what would otherwise be a somewhat inane reaction to a guy's name instead of addressing his positions.
Why would this be news to many a cool hipster? It would be news, I guess, that Chomsky is cool in any respect. Hillary certainly isn't. And didn't all the cool people support Bernie or Jill Stein? In the very brief interview, Chomsky says that1) he didn't like Hillary but voted for her as the lesser of evils; (2) when faced with two awful candidates, we have a moral obligation to vote against the one who is the greater evil, i.e., Trump: (3) Clinton would have been better on climate change, which he thinks is a serious issue' and (4) Trump will "shake up the system" in a bad way, threatening hard-won gains in civil rights and other areas. Nothing said about Israel or Russia, nor did he say he is "endorsing" Hillary in any but the most backhanded way (as the lesser of evils). Yes this is a post mortem about an election that has come and gone. Do we have anything to say about those issues? If not, why not call it a day and move on?
