As to the culture of killing, that's what the former marine noticed. He never went overseas, or really had any reason to be into killing, but he eventually realized that everything was about killing. There was always talk of killing, laughing about killing, 'kill' was chanted (once, I believe) before meals and such. It was about aggression and violence.

I'm not saying there are not honorable aspects of the military. But I'm happy to say that as a whole, I think the US military is very dysfunctional and yes, predisposed to unnecessary violence. It's a big difference, having 100 people, maybe ten of whom are naturally more disposed to shoot at people (I think 10 or 12 percent actually shot at enemies in WWII, if I remember right. And I think that's for all sides, or at least all the allies -- the german methamphetamine may have changed their rates) Then consider people who sign up, knowing they will be infantry and their job will to be kill. Today the rates who shoot at the enemy are over 90%, again, if I remember right. So yes, it makes a fucking HUGE difference how you select people for the military. If you try to get rid of peacenicks and minorities by sending them to fight, it's obvious that their hearts will not be in it and it could cause you as much danger as the enemy, but if you carefully select those who want to kill for you, you're going to have a much more brutal army. And a culture of brutal un-accountability through it.

Yes, bradly manning also saw a problem. And if you look at his case, the crime is that nobody else in his position saw a problem.

Go to wikipedia, and watch the hellfire missile video. That's sociopathic. It's not mannings, it's just a random video of a drone strike. It's sociopathic and disturbing.

I don't think the US wants any sort of ground war, but north korea is spoiling for it, and south korea, especially with their new leader, don't seem to be ready to cave in. In the past north korea has just shelled the south when their food was cut off, and it was reinstated -- this leader has given the military orders to strike back without political concern, and without waiting for her authorization: it's already authorized, if a north korean sneezes and shoots something, they could have a ground war. And the US is on the ground there, in reasonable force. If it's on it's on, there's not much backing away from it if it starts. And I think that's good, north korea is one place I'm a bit of a war hawk. I don't give a fuck about iran, israel is as aggressive as iran, if not more so, and they're also armed. But korea could have joined the world a long time ago, by now they could be just the other half of korea, with no military standoff and no big deal. But instead they've spent half a century waving their small dick in everybody's faces, so.... end it.

I simply mentioned vietnam and the rest of that in response to people talking about if the people want war. I was bringing up the philisophical side of when war is just, what makes it just, and how you could blow your load prematurely all over the middle east, and then falter when it really is just.

They always give us something new and "better" to be worried about. Many times they won't even follow a story to it's end...

It's the best way to keep people confused. :willy_nilly:
