That notion has been proved futile here in Gringolandia, where a whole lot of people exercise the "power of not voting".
imagine if this website held a poll about changing the background color. the options are to keep it the same shade of purple or to change it to a slightly darker shade of purple. you hate purple. whether you bother to vote in the poll or not, i'd still say you have the right to complain about the color of the forums... i see snocbor's being an asshole without being able to make any sort of logical point on his own again...
I think there are lesser evils. Voting for whatever shade of purple could serve a future purpose somewhere down the line.
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there independent candidates too? I know they have no chance, blah, blah, blah. But that's only for as long as everybody believes that they have no chance. Change has gotta start somewhere.
they rarely even make it on the ballot. maybe one third party candidate will get on in most states, but that's about it. the one time i voted, there were just two options.
actually, i'm not entirely sure that there wasn't a third choice, so i shouldn't say that as fact; it's been a while... i don't think there was though
I do think that the 2 party system is fucked up and if there was seriously no other choice, I would probably consider not voting.
American politics are totally fucking insane. I don't think anyone outside the US, and probably most people in the US, really understand it. (reading fear & loathing on the campaign trail made me realize how nuts it is) BSR, I don't mean just not vote - but intentionally vote for no one. if half the votes counted did not have a candidate on them I'm sure someone would take notice.
yeah. if half the votes counted said "Jimmy P," someone would notice that, too. but it ain't gonna happen. most people are ignorant and would rather pick "true" or "false"... and of course, they haven't studied for the test.
And so you go ahead and mimick their ignorant behavior? That's the problem with these ridiculous "most people are such and such" beliefs. For the record, were I an American and there were third party candidates on the ballot I would vote regardless of outcome. If there are only two death penalty-loving, war-mongering, economic imperialists on the ballot. I would not vote. I don't care what little "cultural" differences they choose to emphasize during their campaign.
it's not a belief if statistics support it, most americans are ignorant, go find ten people who can recite article 2 of the constitution, or even know what it is. it'll take you a long while unless you go into a bar full of lawyers to do it.
I am a Brazilian citizen and a legal immigrant to the U.S. I do not wish to be anything other than a Brazilian citizen.
brazil is a net energy exporter. and the most badass ford engine ever was built there (the ford 6.6 liter)
i wasn't talking about myself. i was pointing out that your idea was a tad idealistic. this isn't about me, this is about the reality of the american mindset.
