well I ain't seen the "dense" friend eat fish for awhile. I get a chuckle whenever she orders a veggie burger with cheese~cuz the cook grilling the burger always tells her that it ain't veggie if she eats cheese on it....and yesterday she had veggie chili with shredded cheese on top & 1 of the lineserver told her that she was just a vegetarian wanna-be.
Now the grill cook & the lineserver are not veggie in any way...so I tried to quickly explain the difference to them between a vegetarian & a vegan.

everyone has his or her different reasons for going veggie/vegan. why do we need to criticize those who are adhering to a different lifestyle than we are? as long as they are minding their own business, we should mind ours. i personally don't eat meat because i don't like the way it makes me feel. emotionally, i feel guilty, and physically i feel heavy and lethargic. it affects me deeply in a spiritual way. i feel as though eating an animal that i never saw whole is very negative, and i'm all about keeping my energy positive. i think being a vegetarian but criticizing others' diets is hypocritical. what good is it for the world if your diet turns you into a pompous douche bag?

    W00t! Standing O.

I would just call the friend by her name and leave it at that, but if she really wants the lable I say let her have it. At this point I think it does squat for animal rights anyways and may even be detrimental to the goal of reducing meat consumption amongst the general public, because it seperates animal product-free meals from what many people think of as "normal" food. But I'm looking at it from an AR perspective so of course those who want the veg lifestyle and ease of ordering in restaurants are going to want to defend that lable.

But you (OP) said people are openly mocking her in public places so to answer the original question, no I don't think there is anything she can call herself that'll satisfy everybody. Even if she did cut out the chicken stock they'd still bother her about cheese, or jello, or bone char or whatever.
