Well if we have a giant influenza pandemic again and it finally happens during the middle of the worst economic recession since the great depression, maybe the world really is going to end in 2012
Seriously though, the media is making way too big a deal of it. Apparently (according to my dad, who I trust, since he's a biochemist), it's not even the right season for the flu right now.
Flu season has nothing to do with it, it's the strain of the flu. This particular strain of the H1N1 virus doesn't really care what time of the year it is, especially since it's not your normal human flu that happens every year, it has elements of swine, avian and human influenza and is apparently extremely aggresive and deadly compared to how many people have got it and died from it in just over a week
i dont remember where i read it, but this strain of influenza could be is a mutated version of the 1918 epidemic flu. the 1918 flu killed about 8 million world wide and about 100k in the us. luckily or medical technology is wayy better now and deaths will most likely be in 3rd world countries. sad as hell but true.
I'm not kidding, I walk the streets wearing a shirt confirming I have HIV and act like I am going to spit on people. Why you may wonder.... The only reason anyone does anything
Nooooo, the spanish flu in 1918 killed anywhere from 40-100 million people, the saying is the 1918 pandemic killed 25 million people in it's 1st 25 weeks, HIV killed 25 million in 25 years. Medical technology can really only do so much too if our current vaccines are useless, you can't treat a virus, just lessen the symptoms, and most people will die within the first few days and by the time they seek help when it gets that bad it'll be too late http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu
I think this shit is pretty serious, and we should be worried about it, but watching the news and listening to what they have to say makes me sooo mad. they take shit way out of context. today i was listening and they were talking about possible outbreaks in that NY school. They said that the symptoms they had were cough, congestion, sore throat, etc.. The same exact symptoms as just any kind of flu and sickness you're going to get. How do we know those kids all have SWINE flu? Can't it just be the flu? (unless it was already confirmed swine flu, i'm not sure about that part)
They do have many confirmed lab cases from a students from a Catholic school where these people were in Mexico and the massive and sudden outbreak in the public school system when regular flu season is over proboably means it's swine
It's in Connecticut now too, at least 4 suspected cases, 2 of them people who had just been in Mexico
http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/BO111734/ Apparently there is 2 suspected cases of 2 school kids who were in Mexico last week in Mass.
Jeez, never realized how many people visited Mexico I think I heard about that one on the news like 10 times today
Apparently though, about 1/2 the states in the country already have confirmed or suspected cases. This is the problem with influenza in pandemic mode, how quick it travels, all you need to do is walk by a random person who coughs
