If these people don't want to partake why do they turn. Just for their own enjoyment, whilst pointing the finger and then saying that disgusting and disgraceful.

Interesting, long-lived thread! Can I summarize?
Yes, lots of us have been nude in places that were not "legal" nude beaches (etc.), private property resorts, or the complete privacy of a fenced/walled backyard pool. And the clear (to me at least) implied question is: what is your personal tolerance to the reaction of clothed onlookers, and tolerance to the risk of intervention by law enforcement?

And the answers suggest these generalizations:

Women are better off than men, on average. Appreciated more than tolerated. Or ignored but not causing offense. Or warned but not arrested.

Obviously different countries have different "standards". And regions within a country, or states within a country like the U.S.

And there's the "luck of the draw"- from one policeman to the next, or one police/sheriff's department to the next. And certainly with the clothed hikers, beach-goers, hotel sauna users, etc. that we encounter.

So those of us, myself included, that are comfortable being the nude exception to the clothed rule- provided that we have not intruded offensively into the "space" of the clothed- still have to be mindful of the "tone" of the surroundings, the attitude- as much as we can gauge it- of local Law enforcement, etc. As some have described , we can be truly off of the beaten path, minding our own business, and invisible or marginally visible to others, and wind up in a touchy situation. In the 1980's, the Canaveral National Seashore Playalinda Beach in (I think) Brevard County was nude friendly with law enforcement. The North end (Apollo Beach) in Volusia county was another story. Don't ask how I know that!

Have any of you found a good alternative to being nude when it’s not acceptable? I’m always trying to find outfits that give me an almost nude feeling without offending anyone.
Skirts are fantastic but I’ve had many more negative reactions wearing a skirt in public than I ever had being caught naked in public.
I like tight shorts like Lycra or even a thong style swimsuit ( I actually really like this for running because I don’t get chafing between my thighs from baggy shorts)

I frequently wear Cooltan products when I must be dressed but casual will do. I have several styles of their shirts including a collared one for work. I also either wear their swim trunks which are light and baggy when being active or a sport kilt.
