I hope I'm wrong about the whole thing, I was just thinking that's all, and I'd hate for it to be going down that way that's all. I dunno why there feels like there's negativity or anything.

I'll just have to make the effort that he comes to pub still on Fridays for catch up. Then I'd be happy. :)

Do that. I would be more worried if he was giving all his money away. I see no problem with purchasing some creature comforts.

you can make a good guess about age expectancy if you look at your relatives and how long they lived and what they died of. yes its no exact science but it tells you a lot. at least you would have an idea of what to aim for when it comes to saving money.

most of the women in my family have lived into their 80's. thats why i always bitch about having 50 more years of this "being alive" bullshit to deal with.

Yeah it is turned off now, just took us a while to notice. Now it is super hot outside, but instead of a refreshing pool we have a giant hot tub.

even if it were cool out, hot tubs always set off my RA :(

i dont know if your daughter is well off but i always wonder if my mom had kids so she can have a retirement plan. she sure as hell didnt plan on retiring with money she made herself. i hope my mom didnt count on us because she left some bad dna behind . she could very easily outlive all her kids at this point...funny saying that after she was in a coma and docs gave her less than 5% chance to live.
i remember driving home from the hospital talking to my uncle about funeral plans, a few years later my uncle died and my mom is still kicking.

That is really sweet that you are concerned about your dad's friend. Yeah, just spend a little time with him at the pub on Fridays and that will do you both more good than you have any idea. Well, I would bet it does him more good than you realize. :)

I also agree with Specs - that he is probably just buying himself some creature comforts so he'll have them...as opposed to needing/wanting them later and not being able to get them.

^^^ That makes me about want to cry. Good grief! I'll be 60 in October and the women in my mother's family live to their late 90's, if it is truly known how old they are. My grandmother was either 99, 100, 101 or 102. :D

I enjoy life (most of the time) but dammit 30 to 40 yrs MORE is a lot longer than I'm interested in fooling around here in the flesh. For sure and certain, I do NOT want my body to out live my mind.

Well I'm glad someone thinks my unselfish thoughts abouts others is sweet. :)I couldn't understand why people deemed or viewed it in a negative manner. I didn't say I wanted the guy to grow old and lonely and die, I said the opposite...

I think it's well off anyway, he's a physical guy who walk a lot all the time and always social. And I'm not suggesting that what I said will happen I just have that gut wrenching feeling. And if I know anything about my gut wrenching feelings, then I know to not be complacent with them because my 6th sense on matters is remarkably quite adept.

I'm no ring leader by any means with my older drinking companions and comrades. I don't even know how I fit in with them other than they know or are or were friends with my folks and family at some point. When I started to go out drinking after returning back home, they were just my fit. I don't go out drinking with anybody my age lol. Unless, maybe I'll go out with people from work.

I will just make sure that my drinking comrades are going to have well being and that's all I can do. :)
