OOPS , that's correct , Individual. Medicaid. Right. In a way ,very confusing. My neig ; hbor makes $24k selling cars. He was denied a subsidy. How low of an income must be reported to receive the "subsidy"? Or perhaps the software was "down" that day. Who knows? Point is ; folks are losing confidence in obyscare damn quickly. I , personally have one year left to enjoy my privatized policy ; after that ; who knows? Ahem , one interesting escape hatch could be this: Your fine/tax is determined and enforced by the IRS , via your tax refund. Make sure there is NO refund. Pay $ for your checkups etc. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to do this. Being self emplyed , I pay quarterly , constantly in and out with them. For someone slightly off the grid ; the afore mentioned seems the best way out. Hopefully, this will keep a few folks from drowning in the murky waters of obyscare.
ok for all you people acting like experts on the matter, i saw only a few short minutes of obamas speach about obycare. and one of the things he said was that no money would go against the deficit. but we all know that the rich people will have health care so its not as if money will be going in from them. but the poor people will not be able to afford healthcare so it will be subsidized. now my question is where is the money that is going towards this subsidizing coming from if it isnt affecting the debt? i am pretty sure what the conservative side will say so i am hoping to hear some liberal sides straighten this out.
That's right. Obamacare was designed so that it would not add to the deficit. Now, so many idiots in congress mucked with it before it became law that, in effect, it will add a little, about 1.8 billion a year, which is less than the cost of the weapon systems that the Pentagon has said it doesn't need but Congress insists on paying for.
This is a very dangerous socialist/commie thought of course but perhaps he was not only thinking about himself :sunny:
At 74 , a man has paid his dues. Truthfully , by 50 a working man has paid his dues. Don't discount hard work , asmodin. I drove a Coke truck through out the ghetto for years by 50 my body and nerves were pretty well shot. In response to the question of whom will be picking up the slack in obyscare ; whom do you think? The young and healthy , thats who. Exactly , the folks refusing this program. They need lots of the young and healthy to pay high premiums. The sick and poor, oby's customer base , can not afford to pay their own ; they must rely on the successful and healthy to pick up the slack. As usual , we feel alienated. Already planning exit strategies.
http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-mh-debunked-20131030,0,6010994.story#axzz2jbdktajm I think it's a fair article showing an example of someone who thinks Obamacare is so bad, but also hasn't done her factual research on what a slightly more expensive plan ($40) from the exchanges gets her in terms of quality coverage. As for the federal insurance website, well I been saying it for a while, the States should've run their own exchanges and been proactive about it.
There have been a lot of speeches made so I don't know which one you are referring too. If it's #'s you want, I suggest looking at the Congressional budget offices projections, and other sites like factcheck.org and politifact.com explain it better than anybody here probably can to the specificity you might want in answers. Hope I helped.
If it's #'s you want look at this: The private side of the equation calls for 5-7 million participants at all times. How's that goin so far? Well, results from two states are as follows. Maryland: Private Payer 300 Medicaid 26k Oregon: Private Payer 0 Medicaid 43k So far ; so not good.
If one understands the basic dynamics of the entire system they would know there is one REAL "escape hatch". Don't owe taxes therefore no requirement to fill a return therefore no tracking and/or enforcement. https://www.healthcare.gov/exemptions/ A guy like you could just go off the tax grid completely since certainly the 16th Amendment is a conspiracy as well. Better yet, become an islamic conscientious objector.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/04/b...ml?pagewanted=2&ref=politics&pagewanted=print ^There's your answer RIPTIDE, about income and subsidy qualifications. Here's a quote from that article above. "For many people, paying slightly more for a silver plan may be a much better option, experts said. Ninety percent of those who will have the option of buying the no-cost plans make less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level, which is $28,725 for an individual, and $58,875 for a family of four. People earning below those thresholds are eligible for the most generous assistance, but only if they choose a silver plan".
OK , this is a new one. Makes sense though. So , not only are we buttonholed into buying insurance. We are also forced into buying a specififc plan to get subsidized. Does it ever stop?
No not a specific plan, more like a specific tier, and the trade off is that you get certain level of coverage, that I believe can't be capped like it is now. You still as an individual get to use the free market either within or outside the government exchanges. But I will conceed that the Federal exchanges are a mess, some of the State exchanges are doing better. To be honest I have no idea why the Feds didn't give the job of designing the exchanges to Silicon Valley, in California. I suspect it's due to the whole reason of going with the company that wins the bid. I honestly disagree with that method of outsourcing government work based on low-bid contracts, because I believe talent and quality of the product (in this case the computer science behind the exchanges) suffers, and therefore isn't in the long-term cost saving at all.
I've heard the software contract was awarded to a Canadien company. Also rumored was said contractor is a uni buddy of michelle's ; believe it? Truthfully , software issues will be settled. What about pricing? What about Rule of Law? What about Constitutional integrity? So much more is stake here than recoding software.
I think I saw on the boob tube that the cost charged by the contractor to set the mess up was some 300 + millions! If true--a refund would be in order.
Rip, Its time you saw the light :sunny: Im now a muslim, Muhammad abdula ahkbah. I don't have to prove it and I can pray from behind closed doors. If they are exempt, That's what I will claim. As it sits now, I have no plans of even attempting to go to the 'site', Nor will I ever enroll into commie care. Its not like they can fine you if you claim nothing, They don't have room in any jail or prison for non-violent Osama offenders. Its a Ponzi scam and it will come to light. I found it convenient that the site went down as soon as you had/idiots started to try. Blame it on something, But for the sheer number, You think they would have covered that part long ago about. peace out, Muhammad Abdula Ahkbah!
It's not uncommon for software projects to end in disaster. The British food retailer J Sainsbury PLC spent US$526 million on an automated supply mgmt system that did not work and had to be scrapped. In 1981 the US FAA began to upgrade it's antiquated air traffic control system. By 1994 over $2.6 BILLION dollars of taxpayer money had been spent, but it did not work and had to scrapped. To this day, they have not been able to improve air traffic. There are many other examples.
I'd be willing to bet that the back story on all those boondoggles is that some legislator/s got a good size kickback. Probably the case now with this one. No wonder they spend millions to get elected--drop in the 'bucket' compared to what their vote is worth to the big boys. They've really made themselves look stupid on this one, but someone is still making the heavy cash, IMO.
Eight track tapes, Model Ts, horses for everyday transportation, full coverage bathing suits for women AND men, beepers, front windows on cars that crank open-etc-etc. =OBSOLETE. Insurance companies=OBSOLETE and should join the list of uselessness. Single pay is way past due. How to pay for it? Stop making machines of war. (Military Industrial complex won't allow it). Stop the wars. (same). Tighten up on government waste, as mentioned relative to above. (Legislators won't allow it). And last, but not least--the "fuck that--I'm not paying for someone elses healthcare" folks. Not allowed. Not understood. Not having it. Commie-socialist idea.
