My neighbors stopped calling police unless they had a shooter description. Basically because that is the only way police get sent here.

While reported shootings might be down, gunplay in my not as hoody as West Oakland area is at the usual fall levels.
Bit more pretty stuff, smash and grab, etc.
Less of the tagged stuff. I'm guessing those kiddos are downtown for thrills and a better way to vent.

UPDATE 11-14: Occupy Oakland has been cleared out! Police moved in before daybreak and started to clear out the camp. 32 arrests so far, no violence.

Also http://www.occupystreams.org/, the one site that linked to all the live Occupy videostreams has had its account suspended!

This makes me think this week's police actions against Occupy camps is a FEDERALLY COORDINATED ACTION!

If so people need to start focusing on the OBAMA administration next!

Not the end of anything, the important thing is the seeds of change have been planted. This movement is well beyond any park boundaries and moving indoors if necessary probably would give us alot of legitimacy with people still on the fence. Branching out the protest to target banks, corporations and their minions would probably do more to spread the message out to the burbs than a permanent encampment of a financial section of a city, the bankers know we are here now. The protesters of Oakland should be proud of the accomplishments they achieved in spreading our message.

What really pisses me off is the fact that the City of Oakland, and other cities have spent millions for police actions that accomplish NOTHING!

If they were to put that money towards the needs of the people protesting, like housing, they wouldn't be out there protesting, and the movement would be over.

But no. The 1% want the government to spend millions to suppress the movement, rather than on the people who really need the help.

That is a CRIME against HUMANITY. Someone should take legal action.

Well we would still be protesting, we just wouldnt have as much to protest, lol. The amount of money spent on police overkill enforcement on the Occupy movement is confusing and a true waste of money and resources. I am proud to say that the Occupy Buffalo movement has not been in conflict with local, county, and state police at all so far, and not a dime of taxpayers money has been spent policing the protesters. One way or another the protest will continue until the whole systems changed, but its going to take years of hard work.

All of the protesters were gone from the Ogawa Plaza, except for Zachary Running Wolf, a tree-sitter raised in Berkeley who is perched atop a small wooden platform in a tree there.

Jordan said police are leaving him alone for now as they look into what his legal rights are to be there.

This morning, he could be heard shouting from the tree, "This is native land. I'm not
    coming down."

Tents were up in Snow Park yesterday. Maybe... 20? A medic van as well.
Looked like someone was setting up a kitchen. They need sanitary facilities.

Snow Park is a couple miles away on Lake Merritt, close to the WF that was vandalized, and some of the banks....maybe a better site.

Some folks have been using Snow as a break station for 24/7 protesting. Naps and the like.

And to clarify, Quan is Chinese.

Eta. Just realized this info was in the Berkeley planet story. So to add, Snow is a small park, but it can also be considered the lakeside park, so that gets pretty big.
It is right on Harrison street, high traffic/visibility, but also high risk for "accidental" crashes onto the site.

Likely reasons to run off protesters will be traffic issues, sanitation, getting too close to FairyLand, a small kiddie amusement park. A local senior center could complain if the camp spreads along Grand Avenue.
However, the cathedral has protesters weekly on the pedophile priest issue, so theoretically, the muscle doesn't bother with small protests in the area.

If you are in the area, drop off water and food, and pick up a bag of trash.

Proposal for a Coordinated West Coast Port Shutdown, Passed With Unanimous Consensus by vote of the Occupy Oakland General Assembly 11/18/2012:

In response to coordinated attacks on the occupations and attacks on workers across the nation:

Occupy Oakland calls for the blockade and disruption of the economic apparatus of the 1% with a coordinated shutdown of ports on the entire West Coast on December 12th. The 1% has disrupted the lives of longshoremen and port truckers and the workers who create their wealth, just as coordinated nationwide police attacks have turned our cities into battlegrounds in an effort to disrupt our Occupy movement.

We call on each West Coast occupation to organize a mass mobilization to shut down its local port. Our eyes are on the continued union-busting and attacks on organized labor, in particular the rupture of Longshoremen jurisdiction in Longview Washington by the EGT. Already, Occupy Los Angeles has passed a resolution to carry out a port action on the Port Of Los Angeles on December 12th, to shut down SSA terminals, which are owned by Goldman Sachs.

Occupy Oakland expands this call to the entire West Coast, and calls for continuing solidarity with the Longshoremen in Longview Washington in their ongoing struggle against the EGT. The EGT is an international grain exporter led by Bunge LTD, a company constituted of 1% bankers whose practices have ruined the lives of the working class all over the world, from Argentina to the West Coast of the US. During the November 2nd General Strike, tens of thousands shutdown the Port Of Oakland as a warning shot to EGT to stop its attacks on Longview. Since the EGT has disregarded this message, and continues to attack the Longshoremen at Longview, we will now shut down ports along the entire West Coast.

Participating occupations are asked to ensure that during the port shutdowns the local arbitrator rules in favor of longshoremen not crossing community picket lines in order to avoid recriminations against them. Should there be any retaliation against any workers as a result of their honoring pickets or supporting our port actions, additional solidarity actions should be prepared. In the event of police repression of any of the mobilizations, shutdown actions may be extended to multiple days.

    In Solidarity and Struggle,

    Occupy Oakland

Both should be fired with no pension and loss of all benefits. I had seen that video before and the videographer was doing no wrong and was even asking if he was a proper distance from the police line. Their answer was shooting him in the leg.... I guess that means "yes, you're fine"
