Now the police are blocking more ppl from going on the Brooklyn Bridge. People are chanting "Let them thru!" UPDATE: The people WIN! They're letting ppl in, and roar comes from the crowd... Cars honking in solidarity with the protesters on the bridge. Huge projection on the Verison Building, like 30 stories up says "We are Unstoppable! and 99%"
Its funny that Bloomberg and various media reports are claiming the turn out was low today, but every picture and video I've seen shows otherwise. A friend of mine sent me a picture from his office window somewhere in Midtown and it looked like an absolute madhouse. I think shutting down Zuccatti Park could be the best thing to happen to this movement. It will keep things from getting too stationary.
They've covered the length of the bridge and beyond using the pedestrian walkway...... still coming too...... Easily 10,000+ people, Bloomberg, quit lying.
What happened today was people spread out all over lower manhattan so no one could've known how many there were until they got added up. The big group moved up Broadway, but other groups came up 6th ave, and I saw chopper footage of lots of people running up 7th ave, in the street! And many came via other means to Foley Square. So there were gathering and marches everywhere! No doubt the police were freaking out! I also saw a line of 50 unmarked police vehicles rushing fast somewhere. As if there weren't already enough police around. I think they were calling in reinforcements from everywhere outside Manhattan.
The livestream crew just reported, from Zuccotti Park, that the 36,000 marchers had all made it across the Brooklyn Bridge and are now in General Assembly.
Damn wish i was there in NY .Power to the people .In this world people are an expendable asset , as the corporates make their money regardless of how much of this planet they destroy , regardless of how many lives they destroy , the bottom line rules.Occupy the planet , save us from corporate greed and corpution. I don't get it! If anyone other than a policeman were to inflict this kind of injury upon another human being they would be arrested and in jail facing charges. Why are police allowed to riot like this and get away with it?
If these storm troupers end up killing one of us, then the S's gonna HTF I'm afraid... I truly hope it does not happen. ZW
It's part of being a cop... they can get away with just about anything...... Especially since that "Patriot Act" was rammed down out throat.
Wanna bet? It WILL happen and that will galvanize support from the rest of the 99% who thus far have been silent or unsure. It's only a matter of time. Shall we make a pool to bet on when this will happen? Pick a day, any day! I know it's a morbid thing, but as Ronald Reagan said, "if it's a bloodbath they want, then let's get it over with..." (It's totally amazing to me that someone who authorized a bloody crackdown on students would one day be elected to President.) It does seem the police are trying to pick a fight with the protesters, who so far have shown ENORMOUS restraint, unlike the police. The OCCUPY MOVEMENT IS WINNING!
Ive been calling those Criminology Schools they advertize on the TV.. HI, you teach criminology, where I can get a degree work in security fields, and correctional administration. They say Yes.. So, you also teach how to dress in riot gear, attack non violent protestors, fire tear gas into crowds of homeless and the unemployed? hello..?
November 18th- NY Times: "A lot of us went to bed last night thinking we had the best day of the movement," said protest spokesman Ed Needham. "We all thought, we still believe, this is still the unfolding of a new chapter." With no organized network of housing for scores of protesters who traveled to New York from other cities, the movement is confronting fundamental questions of where to gather and where to sleep. "It's hard to say where it's going right now," said John Carhart, 28, of New Jersey. He said organizers were hoping to find an indoor space before the end of the year, "so people will have a place to put their belongings and a place to sleep that's not outside." A few local churches are housing some of those left homeless by the evictions from Zuccotti Park. ------------------------------- You can stay all day and night in the park- but ya cant bring sleeping bags, blankets or tents- -the cops will take them away or "tell you" to get rid of them before you enter the park- Check out the postings all thru-out the park- mostly near the south-end. there are some places that good people will house and feed you for a night or two. Just because you dont sleep there ,doesnt mean you give it up- find a place (hell even an all night diner will do- ) to rest outside the park for a few hours an return with re-charged batteries-
Then, there's the hair-yanking and dragging of women... Police drag female protestor by her hair through a New York intersection beginning at 0:43. "] Image of NYPD yanking a woman by her hair as she tries to flee their advance. #OCCUPYWALLSTREET Protest | Edubirdie
