Way to go! As mentioned earlier, I was and still am reluctant to get a VW because of the reliability factor. It's too damned bad that Toyota and Honda don't make diesels for the American market. I'd probably buy one in a heartbeat if I had the money! AMEN! Moreover, we could reduce drasically if not almost completely our dependence on foreign oil if we were to use hemp as fuel!
one of the largest uses of oil and oli products isn't even on your list. That is non-recycled PLASTIC packaging and plastic stuff in general. The box that houses the computer, the monitor and the keyboard that you and I are using came from oil. Much of the packaging and dunnage material that it cam in came from oil. ANYTHING made from plastic probably came from oil from hotdog wrappers, to styrofoam cups to rubberbands on the daily newspaper etc...if its plastic it was once probably oil. How many of these things can we do without or do with in a different more recyclable mode???
The petroleum industry is dedicated to huge profits no matter what you do to conserve. But if it makes you feel better go right ahead.
Everything you buy that wasn't produced locally is shipped using petroleum products. as well as a significant amount of food is produced with petroleum-based fertilizers, as well as a significant amount of the electricity you use comes from oil-burning powerplants. etc. etc.
I don't know about any of you people, but I get sick everytime I fill my tank up. I feel like the man is sucking all of my money away. I also feel like I'm adding to global warming. I own a 6 cylinder chevy lumina. I hate it. I'm saving up to get a VW desiel car to do the whole biodesiel thing.
I know the feeling. I get it every time I have to fill my truck up. I am curious to know why people think that conserving gasoline doesn't somehow matter. Whats it to you anyway? Are you invested in ExxonMobil or something?
