I have plans for me and The Mother to go to a family reunion the 19th of this month...its a family reunion on my father's side. We haven't been invited to one of them in several (many) DECADES. lol One of my older 1st cousins has had mental problems for all of her adult life, and she has in the past 6 months or so weaned herself off of all meds except for a sleeping pill at night. For a time they had her on so much dope, anti-psychotic everything, she was practically in a vegetative state. Thank goodness, there finally came a time that changed with all that Big Pharma dope, and she is more together than when she was a teenager, from what I've been told. She is living in a place for people with disabilities - but its a neat place and everybody has their own little (tiny) house. There is a community center there and that is where this reunion party will be.

I should say that almost as soon as she began thinking clearly, she began wanting this...and in the past month, she decided this reunion IS going to happen! I'm glad for her that she is doing this. I'm also glad for other reasons...

What is so interesting to me about all of this is that my mother/The Mother and this same cousin are big buddies, and genuinely like each other. So, it will be fun (for me) watching some of the selfish ass holes from that side of the family fight to be the center of attention while deaf Mama and my cousin "talk", and they (mama and the cousin) will most probably be the center of attention. Mama will certainly be the oldest one there - and EVERYBODY will ask me how old she is, and I'll have to tell them I can't tell. lol

This cousin does have a sort of high voice, and since Mama can hear higher pitches, as opposed to a lower voice such as mine (smh) they may well actually be able to talk. I'll still be taking 2 sharpies and a memo pad for people that don't squeak when they talk.

Then a few days later I get to watch the eclipse! :D

OH - and since I'm sure everybody is really concerned if Lassie, the calico cat I don't care about, was present this morning...

:D She was on the steps, waiting for me to open the door and step away so she could dash in. [IMG] Even though she STILL AND YET won't let me touch her...she lets me get closer without running, and if I make myself just stay still, she will come within about 4 feet of me before deciding she needs to go in the tunnels or dash outside.

Princess looks upon her as if she is lower than a peon, and doesn't even deserve notice. Gimli-Benny likes anybody he can play with. lol

OK - that's all the cat news for the present.

I KNOW that Spaceman was wanting to hear all about that.

Maybe we should have a thread where we all introduce ourselves by name (no last names of course) and share a random fact or two that humanizes us. It can be easy to see someone as a username and avatar on here.

Well I've blurted my surname out a few times because I've mentioned that I try and secure our castle several times a year. The castle has my surname and at some point in Bavaria our kinsmen lived in the village and so I don't see why it his cant be mine? Like it's my family!! So few times a year I will write and ask for it to be my possession. Mostly for fun with a bit of I really want it lol.

I usually receive some humorous response. :D

Anyway, it is a hotel now and you can stay in there which we've done a few times now and for those couple of days, it truly is mine. ;)

My great-great grandmother and her family were Van Steenburghs.
Some said they were Jewish but I think I found something recently that made me think they weren't. I'd have to look at my genealogy stuff again.

Not Jewish no. It's a Bavarian surname meaning Falcon Mountain, in the original form but over the years, surnames change with spelling. We spell our surname with a U now. :) I think it looks prettier with a U too. Though on some documentations I have it is with the E.

I also added accents to my title as "Lady" when I bought land in Scotland just for the title. So I'm a registered Lady Falkenbúrg. :D

Not sure if they still do it but you could buy a square foot of land of lots more and then you could register your title as Lord (Male) or Lady [female]

    I'm very feudal. =p

I think the Jewish "bergs" must have married into the name at some point though. In Poland the easiest way to tell a Jewish surname is if it's easy or not. Most Slavic Poles have the messed up surnames, whereas the Jewish ones a really short in comparison. Not all the time.

I used to think the name Johannes was Jewish and that's quite a common name and or middle name for a lot of people here but it's not at all. I think it's pretty German for John.

Some my family has really interesting middle names where they sound Jewish for sure but they aren't at all. I think a lot of biblical names just make you think they're Jewish.

I love that meme "where'd Jesus find people named John, Christopher and Paul in the Middle East anyway" always makes me laugh. Because it's true. :D

My brother was recently diagnosed with the same thing. He has to do these 'head exercises' or whatever to get crystals in his inner ear to go back where they're supposed to be.

When the doc did the manipulations to my mom's head he held her head still at the end and told me to watch her eyes. They spun round and round in her head, lol. I've never seen anything like it.

he was probably doing the test to diagnose it...

the epleys maneuver is a treatment and shouldnt make your eyes do that...

you have to know which ear it is though because if you start off on the wrong side it takes you for an unpleasant ride

Fucken princess! I want a castle! I'm an American, so my family history is limited to Ellis Island and post war suburbs, though I remember my great grandmother telling me about her grandmother who was an immigrant from Ireland.

When I was a teenager, a lot of the women in my family took a trip to Ireland, a kind of pilgrimage. I couldn't afford it. Anyway, they found a pub in Cork with our surname on it. That's as close as I come to European nobility.

Though, my own pub just might trump my own castle...

naw dude, it's the asinine sex crap that has damaged this site.
Don't believe me, go back and read some folks "exit" posts.

political shit has been and always will be a hot button topic at a site such as this.
