I quit cigarettes after smoking for ten years. I've had minor relapses, most notably during my first south east Asia visit, but now I just find them terribly disgusting.

At the risk of sounding cliché, just make the decision not to smoke today every day. If you make that decision at the start of the day, and realize what a big pussy you will be if you fail this minor committment to yourself, quitting should be fairly easy.

I'm not talking about smoking, I'm talking about stupid programs.

Smart people don't quit for bullshit like that.

They quit because they know they have to quit.

    A simple as that.

why has he made a thread about it then? its one of the basic tennants of quitting is to make other aware of it, also he's probably looking for advice...

And there is no having to quit, its a choice to over ride a habit...that website is pretty righteous yes but it just iterates the very old concept ofover riding ones daemons, that which keeps us away from what we want. It's the basis for changing any negative behavior...

    It's a disgusting, dirty addiction.

I quit for like three days just before my birthday last month..

    It's hard

30 pack = almost $16 in Australia

they say the three sort of benchmark points in quitting smoking are
    3 days
    2 weeks
    2 months

after 2 months, you're supposed to be over it.

i don't remember the specifics, but at those points, the cravings really start to decrease and you enter a new "phase" of addiction recovery or whatever. i tried searching google but couldn't come find anything. the 2 weeks might be 3 weeks. i dunno. the doc who told me this told me more specifics, but i don't remember.

    I see..

Well I'll just say how I quit, its worked for the last 7 months.

Everytime I sense myself trying to justify a smoke in anyway shape or form I criticize that thought and label it a product of my cravings. Even if it's as simple as reminising the social aspects, It's still the addiction talking.

A friend who's been quit for 15+ years said he stopped thinking about it after 2 years. Nicotine withdrawl is said to be over in about 3 days, I found my energy return in 2 weeks but then it plataued. I have respitory issues as well, One thing I noticed when I quit was I got a lot of upper respiratory issues flaring up especially sinusitis, my lungs are definitly more powerful...and I'm pretty sure I'll be clearing tar from my lungs for the next 10 years.

Elecampane extract was quit effective at supporting my lung rejuvenation
