    firstly....calm the heck down

secondly....sounds like an honest mistake to me....but only if...

thirdly...the rice you found was even the same rice she made...perhaps there is vegetarian rice with peas in box...but you a)did not see it b)maybe it was sold out because it was so freakin delicious.

if she didnt use the chicken broth rice...you need to reevaluate your reaction. if she did...you need to calmly talk to her about it. She, in all likely, didnt even realize the chicken part of it.

the world is not out to get you because you dont eat meat ya know. you also have to realize that the world also does not revolve around you either and you need to make your dietary choices known and clear to those who are kind enough to cook for you.

if you politely inform her that you are a strict vegan...it will sit in her subconscious and when she is cooking a meal that involves you, she will remember to thoroughly check the ingredients.

--When you were eating the rice, did you taste the chicken broth? No. If you did, why the hell were you eating it?
--Not all chicken/beef broths have animal fat in them.
--To meat eaters, meat means just that, meat. Not poultry, not fish, meat. When you say that you don't eat meat, thats exactly what they think. You don't eat meat, but you eat other items like eggs, poultry and fish. Deal with it! If you say that you don't eat meat and you get served chicken, well tough shit, cause you did'nt say you did'nt eat chicken.
--And claw, cut the shit. I think we can all tell that "corpse eater" is a derogatory term. What do you think your eating when you munch of veggies? A rotting corpse.

i always look to see what im eating before i eat it..even if im at someone elses house...i dont trust people to know what is vegetarian and what is not when we live in such a meat eating world. some people just REALLY dont know. they dont know that chicken broth has chicken in it. or that all hostess products have beef fat in them. i guess it was just a learning experiance for you. if she did know, and fed you it anyway..that is super messed up, but its somewhat your fault for not looking. if you dont want to eat chicken, then you need to make sure that you don't. if your visiting someone and they're making food, and you want to check the ingredients, but think that might be rude, then thats something else. its not rude, and if they think it is, then they are wrong.
    Peace out vege buddy

i think you could just explain it to her that you dont eat meat and chicken counts as meat, and not give it to you again..it might have been a mistake.

I think she has done a mistake. Sad so.

Remember that you are the person that won't eat meat. So you can go to your friends and tell them that you don't like meat. If they ignore you and freak you off they are facists. If they say "I cook what I want to cook in my house" it's ok because you are the guest, remember that. If they made an error it's not their fault.

It's not their way of life and I for one think that it is ok.

    But:

you can't judge them by the way they life,

you can't judge them by their errors

and always remember: You are the minority in their house!

I know a lot of people thinking that their vegetarian/vegan way of life is the only right way. To eat animals is a traditional way of life in some countries and the vegetarian way of life is a traditional way of life in some countries too.

I just have one thing to say about all the controversy, and that is: This woman is someone who is supposed to love you. If she does love you she should take into consideration your lifestyle choices. Yes, you are a guest, and as such should be treated with respect and taken care of. Right?

Oh, I feel for you!!! I had a similure experiance with my sister-in-law.

We were on a Navajo reservation with my borther and sister-in-law (among other people) and she kept making this big deal about how I had to eat meat because it would be offensive to refuse the food that they made for us. That is just bull because many of them are vegitarians themselves, and I knew them personally. I think it was just a power trip for her! She doesn't like that I'm vegitarian and she wanted to make me be a carnivor! I did end up giving in because I didn't want to fight it. It almost made me puke, but it was only a little on the side - thank god!!!
She acted like these people were so ignorant that they wouldn't know that people have food prefferances!

    Ugh!

ok, first of all, most vegetarians do not try to "push" their beliefs on others. in fact we're generally very tolerant. i for one do not mention being a vegetarian unless i absolutely have to, and i certainly don't start attacking those who eat meat at that point. but often, as soon as i say the v-word, i find myself being attacked pre-emptively. the only reason i can come up with is that this is a defensive attack brought on by existing feelings of guilt, and meant to belittle me as a way of dealing with their own insecurities.

and yes, we know that not everyone is out to get us. but being in a very small minority we sometimes feel like it. and it's hard to understand why people think chicken is a vegetable or why they think broth isn't the same as meat. i suppose it's ignorance.
