Well if you grow up with metalheads it gets a rather cliché joke soon enough :D

I disagree with Michael. You have to be very open minded for Metal in general. I do feel that here in the States Metalheads need to be spoon fed Metal, were as to in South America, Asia, and Europe, fans are very open.

I think this is a shitty response by Michaels answer to the negative backlashed received by his fans for their recent releases. To like Opeth you HAVE TO BE open minded, which I find it ironic that he would backslash at his fan like that.

Oh god you're like the only person I've met online that didn't like them.
Well done, I've been anti Opeth for a decade. They suck.

I think he's right. Because I've caught myself being close-minded a lot of times. I stopped listening to In Flames because they just up and changed their style of music all of a sudden into something whiny and obnoxious. For a loooong time I complained together with other metalheads that they "sold out by abandoning their fanbase and their original style" Yeah.

All music theory is pretty pretentious, all you are talking about is 7 different wavelengths of sound the human ear can handle and the combinations thereof. Its incorrect to assume all those chord patterns have the same effect on everybody

Yeah , it's so pretentious, it's the criteria by which instruments are designed and intoned. You don't even know the difference between a wavelength and a chord do you? STFU, you are out of your depth, donny :smilielol5:

I see this differently: many metalheads becoming one in their teens. This is generally not their most openminded period in life where it comes to tastes and preferences. In a few years (ok with metalheads it often takes a decade or 2 more :p :mickey:) they grew up and find their rigid stances about a band's discography as a whole is kind of juvenile and extreme. Then we can appreciate the early and better albums of a sell out band again too :p What you described about In flames I had with Metallica when they released Load and everything after it. Now I say they have the right to rape their own image and level of quality :D
