I'm 6'1, 225-230. I wouldn't say I'm overweight just big and strong. I pretty commonly pick up 200lb transmissions (when I don't feel like getting the trans jack) over my head and line them up with engines while someone starts the bolts. I could trim my gut a little but oh well. I'll get around to it.
The first time I lost weight, From 300+/- down to 218lbs I ate only mcdonalds. I usually had a #3 with the orange drink. My body was in 100% physical standing. I gained some back, 40lbs, Second time around it was one meal a day only. I cut out junk food etc and the lowest I hit before building muscle back was 206.7lbs. Right now im at 215.8lbs. It does help im 6'4" tall, but not when it comes to clothes. That's the only downside to loosing weight, You have to buy all new. This last time, I was able to get 'back in' my favorite summer clothes, And then some. Went from a 40" pant down to a 32" with a belt. Congrats on you're loss, its always awesome to hear of another great success loss! That and you are holding it and not going back to the old ways. Keep up the good work!
Honesty, Longer you wait, Harder it is. The first time I 'tried' I did great and semi fast. The second time, This time last year, It took a bit more effort and a lot of discipline.
Well, it's really not much of a gut just not a flat 6 pack either. Fact is I drink a LOT of beer. And it should probably be massive. I just need to get back into drinking less, smoking more and then going running when I'm stoned. That's what I used to do.
I am I think BMI wise, But even at 208, To me I was still fat. For some reason i cant shake the gut. I do many types of workouts many times a day, Just don't show to me! But as soon as it warms up, I need to get out in the shop and that's where most of my build and tone came from. Like you said, You can fuck with the jack, Or hold it for a few seconds and be done.
I drink a shitload of beer and still keep my abs and muscle tone. Don't ask me how that works but it does. I do hit the gym a lot, eat well and have a pretty demanding job but my beer intake is up there quite a ways. It might catch up with me one day.
You are still active and have a very active job. What you don't sweat out at work, The gym does. Its the people who spend their time drinking and doing nothing, Look like wal marts finest. I had to quit all together. Im a king of beers man, It added too much plus i got/get stupid when i drink.
I've been thinking about joining a gym, I just work so much that it's hard. I'm almost to the point I'll be able to cut out early most days. And I have muscle tone. At least as much as I want really. Not really sure where my weight comes from to be honest. I'm just bulked up, broad shoulders and that kind of shit.
I always used to think that my job worked me out enough and it kind of does. But what I realized in the gym is that my gym workout is completely different. It affects my body in a much different way. I used to work my ass off at work but nothing ever changed much. Once I hit the gym, I gained mass and it showed. But I've been slacking because of an injury and I've dropped some weight but I will be back soon. Both of my sons were over today and I'm pretty sure they are both bigger than I am now but they are in the gym almost every day. I was kind of like...what? I always used to be bigger than them!
Since I don't travel anymore I gained quite some weight. Time to either travel again or to start being more active instead of being an internet warrior.
I think "absolute bodyweight", as opposed to muscle mass v bodyfat % is less of an issue for men than women. I'm happy with my weight and proportions. Sometimes when I go to a dive bar full of people with bullnecks and "prison arms", I think about putting extra mass on. But if I'm on a running/cardio/internal martial arts drive, I prefer just being of a less heavy frame. Over the past few yrs I've ranged from a footballer's type build to a more muscled boxer frame. Which can be a pain regarding clothes in a way.
odon II : My stomach is about the same shape as the one in 1st picture. I cant see my private parts when I'm standing up straight unless I bend forward slightly.
Putting on 15 pounds of muscle in a year would be extremely hard even for someone who is an advanced weight lifter and has a near perfect diet. you can bulk up but ur not putting on actual pounds of muscle for the most part.
One of our new derby girls (she's a total weirdo) who has been with us for like 3 weeks told me last night, "this is a great workout! I've gained like 10lbs since I started though. That's a lot of muscle!"
Last time I bulked up I think I put on 10-12 lbs. in about 4 months but....some of that was water and I was hitting it harder than most people are willing to do. My diet was almost perfect, I drank 2-3 protein shakes a day, paid attention to everything I did/ate and was in the gym 5 days/week in addition to my job (usually 3 days in the weight room and 2 days of some pretty hardcore circuit training. And I didn't have to worry about losing any fat to begin with.
