Opinions About Racial Dynamics In Oregon Standoff

The reverse of this is also true. National Park Service people are much more likely to approach somebody like me for some minor or imagined infraction, because they aren't intimidated by a middle aged white couple, and playing tough with us makes those pathetic Barney Fife types feel better about themselves. I was listening to a story similar to this while driving home a few minutes ago. A woman representing this particular tribe spoke up and alleged that if it were her tribe occupying the land, there would likely be police brutality involved.

I don't know the answer to the OP...we don't have anything to compare this to in a place like Oregon. Are there even black people in Oregon? Although we can say, in general, that white folks do seem to receive better treatment.

My reply doesn't have to do with Oregon per se...it does have to do with "whites being treated differently"...which I haven't necessarily seen in my state. My example of white people not being shown any kind of preferential treatment is:

Back in July or August of 2015, a white 19 year old boy was killed (murdered) in a Hardee's parking lot in Seneca, SC as he was trying to flee from a botched drug sting. His passenger was the person that had "set up" the drug buy with what she didn't know was a Highway Patrolman. The number she texted was 1 number off from what she intended, hence the text to the patrolman.

Anyway, it took MONTHS for the dash cam video to be released because it shows the unarmed teen trying to run, and the white officer running up to the car screaming "I'm going to blow your (bleeped out - probably fucking) head off! The cop RAN up to the car and for a moment was in front of it because he put himself there. However, he QUICKLY moved and was in NO DANGER. The kid kept going and the cop shot through the open driver's window hitting him from back to front - twice. Once in the back and once in the shoulder.

The cop acted like he was "in fear for his life"...and the video that was s l o w l y and f i n a l l y released showed quite differently. However, the DA, the solicitor, the governor, NOBODY would touch this case. The parents have done everything they could do get some justice for their dead/murdered 19 yr old son.

Oh yeah - and all of this was over 10 (TEN!) grams of weed. That is all, and it was the passenger's. The cop KNEW it was the passenger they were trying to sting.

Other places in the state where the black kids have been killed/murdered there has at least been something done, someone charged or it has been looked into and taken seriously.

Our GOP governor gave this a teensy bit of lip service and that is all. So no, I certainly haven't seen white people being treated better here.

Oh the heels of my last post about how white people aren't treated better EVERYWHERE!, I do think whites are treated differently (better) there in Oregon...

and given your example, I think all of them (the non-whites) would be massacred, similar to what the USofA did to the Native Americans. However, I don't think those dumbasses would give out any small-pox blankets, because they wouldn't know how.

I'm not trying to defend the militia. It seems to me like they're a lost cause, and are doing more to HURT the reputation of high desert ranchers than help. I'm just asking if there is anything definitively racist about that group that isn't a stereotype or assumption.

Yeah, that was fucked up and he certainly isn't the first white victim of police brutality. And SC didn't waste any time charging that police officer in charleston last year who shot a black man in the back while he was fleeing the scene.

I have witnessed some less than savory treatment of blacks by the police here over the years though, and we all know the charleston cop never would have been charged if it wasn't captured on camera by an eyewitness.

 

We all remember that Occupy Wall Street in Zucotti Park, Manhattan was treated differently than Ferguson, Mo.

The fear that property/ real estate is at risk for destruction may be a factor in the disparate treatment.

Remember one of the main reasons the feds are not going in guns blazing is because it is in the middle of nowhere and the only ones at great risk of harm are the asshole "militia" themselves.

When armed militants took over an insignificant U.S. Government property in Oregon a week ago, many like me were surprised that the federal troops didn't route them for their blatant seditious activity.

I can understand the rationale to let the fools sit there until they get tired of waiting for an armed federal confrontation that would spread their ridiculous message to like-minded nutcases. Good point that.

However, the side of me that believes ppl should obey laws and not get away with illegal activities without consequence sees the other side of this. The side that says if you do not stop this now, it will escalate to more important situations, perhaps the taking of hostages next time or just the nuisance of having armed nutcases emboldened enuf to actually use their firearms.

Then there is the appearance of favorable treatment of these ARMED WHITE MEN, getting away with actually seizing federal property and not being attacked by the police as so many UNARMED BLACK PPL have been in recent years, such as the military vehicles with mounted machine guns pointed at unarmed protesters in Ferguson Missouri.

Is it just coincidence that no one is confronting these armed WHITE SEDITIONISTS in Oregon when such threatening military style intervention confronted BLACK protesters in the past?

Personally, I am on the side of federal troops going in there, giving one ultimatum to come out with their hands in the air and if they do not comply take them out by whatever force is necessary. It would set a precedent for future armed nutcases who think they can confront the legal authority of the United States just because they believe it has no authority. So far the U.S. has shown acceptance of their insanity.

all but the last one are irrelevant to the current situation.
They are all protests with the sole intent of disrupting services and business in much more densely populated locales, therefore the risks to innocent bystanders is/was far greater therefore the more immediate action.
I am not condoning the brutality of some of these instances, just pointing out the very logical and rational reason for the different reaction that does not have to pull race into it as a causative agent.

Aside from challenging the authority of the government, who is in immediate peril if things get out of hand except for these idiots?
