Mr. RIPTIDE, I have tried to find any kind of job! So no, I'm damn certain it is not easier to "find some bullshit job to go vegetate at".

I have never in my life, before the last 8 months, gotten any kind of gubmint help, and this (fs) is the only help I get. Personally I find it embarrassing beyond belief but I am grateful that I'm able to eat without burdening my mother further.

I think its a sad state of affairs that soap and toilet tissue are considered luxury items.

What we get time and again is the perpetuation of a myth which all seems to be based on self serving anecdotal evidence.

There doesn’t seem to be any real evidence that there is widespread abuse of the system.

There seem to be mechanism in place to try and counter abuse if it takes place.

There does not seem to be any real evidence that the system causes ‘laziness’ and the fact is that many people having to use it are low paid workers, they are in work.

Also the idea that such welfare system cause ‘dependency’ doesn’t seem to stand up either, I mean there are many countries that give much more generous welfare benefits than the US but have lower unemployment rates than the US. And there are countries that are less generous with higher unemployment rates than the US.

    LOL Government suck off.

We used food stamps for about 6 months after having paid taxes for almost 30 years.

    Are you naive or trolling?

Speaking of ‘laziness’ and living off the government tit it's long been proven that 90 cents of every dollar allocated to aid programs goes to admin and only 10 cents reaches the person needing help.

The other thing is we are rapidly nearing the point where more than half the population works for the government trying their best to suck both Auntie Samantha's tits dry.

Proven by whom? Can you produce the evidence?

    Can you produce the figures?

Bachmann’s claim that 70 percent of food stamps go to ‘bureaucrats’
Posted by Glenn Kessler at 06:02 AM ET, >03/19/2013- - Washington Post<
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
Bachmann’s statement>>, 70 percent of the money that is supposed to go to the poor actually goes “to benefit the bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.” That this translates into just $3 (out of every $10) in food stamps going to the needy.

She stated this awhile ago, BUT- 70%- 90% - the point is, that is a ridicules amount that should go to aid programs, ,but ends up going to the administration

Do your own research! The first bit was published in the San Francisco Chronicle in the '70s and I've never seen it refuted.

As to the second point that's a matter of public record. Please note I said 'nearing the point'.

Again this seems to be about the perpetuation of a myth

“the Government Accountability Office (GAO) praises the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as a model of government efficiency. About 92 percent of federal spending on SNAP reaches the program’s beneficiaries, with the remaining 8 percent covering administrative costs, including eligibility determinations, employment and training, nutrition education for SNAP beneficiaries, and anti-fraud initiatives to assure compliance by the more than 230,000 participating retail outlets”

Did you check the facts of that newspaper piece or just accept it without question?

Ms. Lynn Brown ; I don't consider anything embarrassing about what you did. American citizens are entitled to a safety net. No question. Nor am I judgemental regarding the recipients. My concern would be when the 47% becomes 51 ; the inmates will be financially running the asylum. Additionally, when do parasites become predators? What we are seeing in Greece and several PIG style nations is not attractive behavior. Not unlike our occupy movement these folks are starting to get aggressive in their thinking of what they are entitled to. On the flip side , folks are becoming pretty well armed. Not a good scenario.

Good posts. I'm so impressed that "mods" from the UK are so intelligent . Knowing more about the US Constitution than actual citizens. LOL. Seems like some folks will really carry the torch for revenue sharing. Just say "no". Worse than drugs , social services take the "I" out of the word individual. Just line up with the masses. Good day comrades. No, not trolling. I just don't buy into guvmint control.

Actually it seems to be about 7-8% and

“In fact, the percentage of Americans who work for the government has shrunk sharply in recent years--so much so that a smaller percentage of Americans now work for the government than at any time since 1987”

    Where was this 'public record'?

You seem to be accepting the governments word backed by nothing more than their own figures. Who checks the GAO's math? As I recall when a politician's lips are moving ....'

The above post is incorrect. More lackies are employed by the guvmint than ever before. Hence the population overgrowth in DC. I would love to see supporting linx for the above. Proof of the burden of the shiftless folks can be seen in a GDP of less than 2%. Again, why emulate PIGS?

As I say some people prefer the myths of their own prejudices to reality.

They’d prefer some big conspiracy than face facts that they don’t want to agree with.

    Very sad.

If we're talkin about America, its 17%. Not that I see how that has to do with anything.
