I've never worn them somewhere where I actually gave a shit what people thought of me, but I don't often go places where I really do care all that much. It's been awhile since I've gone anywhere but the gas station (or to a meeting at work on a day off) in PJ pants and I don't really see myself doing it anymore anyway. I just like wearing real pants these days.
Long skirts and sandals are not the same as sweatpants or cotton pants with silly designs on them. You can actually look nice in a long flowy skirt. I like wearing those myself. I don't ever wear pajamas in public. I'm not shallow, I don't wear lots of makeup, but I do like to look presentable in public. And I wear sandals a lot but it's more of a common thing in Florida because it's always hot. I mean, if we all wore formal shoes then the whole state would smell like stinky feet.
I think that there are a lot of things worn in public that are not necessarily in good taste. Of course that is a personal opinion.
I worked at a university from 1990-2011. I started seeing this somewhere in that time period. I always figured that the kids had to get to class and slept in so they just started wearing pj's to cut the amount of time they needed to get ready to get to class. I worked in a public library from the 70's through 1990 and don't remember seeing people who came there wearing PJ's. It is not something I would do but I am sure people could or do criticize me for my lack of thought in my dress. I wear jeans every day and a T-shirt in the summer and jeans and turtleneck in the winter. For "dress up" I will put on a pair of earrings and a necklace. When I am in a hurry, no jewelry.
pajama pants are way high up on the scrub level. I might wear pajama pants in public once every lke 6 months or so.
Perhaps it's because this is Europe, but wearing pajama pants outside of your house is unacceptable, unthinkable even. There is no excuse, really. Casual is okay, but this is pure slopiness. Some people are just so lazy when it comes to their appearance (although everyone's allowed to have a bad day or two), but I think it's gone way too far.
it literally takes about 30 seconds to take off the pajamas and throw on a pair of regular pants. and other than exam day, it doesn't really matter if you're late to class in college anyway. plus, i doubt most people actually sleep in pajama pants anyway, they probably actually put them on in the morning instead of other pants. i think it just comes down to comfort, and not caring what they look like at class.
Once I moved to a new town. As my family and I were driving around, I saw these two people walking around in pajama pants and I knew I was going to hate it there, and I didn't end up living there for very long. It wasn't because of the pajama pants that I hated it, but I regarded it as a kind of warning sign. I don't have anything against people who wear pajama pants in public, but we probably won't be friends. My partner is from Serbia and whenever he goes out people constantly comment on his attire, as he usually wears a blazer and nice shoes as opposed to a shirt out of a beer box, jeans and dirty sneakers. I wish that it was more acceptable for people to look nice and it was weird to go out looking like crap, but it seems like some people just don't care. Is it not a taboo to send your children outside in pajamas?
I remember when I was about 4, and there'd be visitors coming round. My parents would say "you can stay up later if u put your pyjamas on". I always felt that was seriously warped logic. So when I was 6 or 7, I had ways of dealing with their silly demands. (Like "let me stay up late... or I'll pretend you're both weirdos and child abusers" ) :2thumbsup: I also remember, when all my cousins were about when we were little kids. If we had pyjamas on, it was always a big goal to sneak up behind one of us at a really inappropriate moment and pull there their pyjama trousers down. Eg when the creepy "batchelor" next door was walking past. If it was a successful "result", the rest of the day, the victim would be getting grief for ages.. ie "why did you flash at the neighbour, you weirdo.. u fancy him dont u..." (except in whatever kids rhyme format we were using at the time...) Anyway when a courier knocks the door before I've got up, I always put tracksuit trousers on and stuff before answering. I've never remotely felt the inclination to answer the door in my sleeping stuff.. Maybe I'm still subconsciously thinking that if I was wearing pyjamas , someone might sneak up behind and pull my pyjamas down... As far as I'm concerned nightwear in public is still for hot girls only...
Funny thing is, when I did wear my pajama pants in public (like I said, pretty sure it's only ever been to the gas station and work meetings), I still usually put on make-up before I left the house. There were a couple of times where I'd get up for work, but need to run to get my fiance cigarettes before I left for the day, so I'd comb my hair, and run to the store real quick, straight out of bed. I had lots of silly reasons for it, but now I just don't feel comfortable leaving the house like that. If I'm leaving in my pajamas, I don't think I will plan on going inside anywhere or getting out of the car at all.
I have the same level of interest in whether or not someone is wearing PJ pants as if they're wearing the latest designer clothes. Zilch Unless its a nice restaurant or some type of event that warrants nice clothes, I don't see why anyone else would care either. But, we all have our pet peeves I suppose. I can't stand I when someone leaves their windshield wipers on after it stops raining. Or runs them on full blast when it's a light sprinkle. Drives me bonkers
Some comfortable pants are essentially pajamas although not strictly pajamas. Yoga pants is an example. It would be a good experiment to see if store owners and patrons would freak out at the site of such pants that are similar. It gets to be like the old debate about banning flag burning. Would it be unlawful to burn something that looked similar to an American flag but not exactly the same?
I don't wear pajamas in public, but I wear all sorts of dumpster finds, and whatever I think looks neat or feels good. I'm sure a lot of people think I'm lacking shame or decency or something when I don't wear shoes, or have funny looking hair. My opinion in the matter is that they may choke on a fat dick So, more power to them I say, wear what ever you want. My only clothing rule is keep the skidmarks in your pants. Now, the 20 dollar pairs of fashionable brand name pajama pants, I could do without those. But in principle, I'm fine with pajamas anywhere anyone wants to wear them.
i haven't seen this. i don't own pj's myself. couldn't sleep in them if i did. maybe people wear them in the day time because they can't sleep in them at night, and someone gave them to them, and they didn't want to be wasteful and just throw them away.
aw well...looks like a few posters joined my side lol....where the hell were you people when i was the lone defender of other peoples choices death...srub list?....i been on worst lists than that...speaking of which i have worn scrubs in public a hundred times...they are more comfortable than pj pants and better for a hot day
It's becoming more like a Spandex Nation :2thumbsup: 1 out of every 4 women I see these days is wearing spandex. Is spandex taking over the jeans market? If you got the body it looks good and in these college towns packed with 19 and 20 year old girls damn they’re looking good and it hides nothing.:2thumbsup: hotwater
