What a stupid stupid stupid issue. Can't fight the ideas so you attack the character. Classic. and disgusting.
Exactly, my family has teenage mothers in the last 5 generations, the only difference between then and now is that they are less likely to get married to the father, though a significant portion co-habitate (as I have been doing with my partner since my oldest son was born, we were 19). It's only an issue cause they haven't yet got any other good "dirt" on Palin yet, and policy differences are not enough for the talking heads or the sheep. Personally, i wish Palin was at the top of the ticket with McCain as VP pick.
I personally think there is a difference between the pregnancy of the daughter of a VP candidate, and the President of the United States having an extra-martial affair with his intern and lying about it under oath. Call me crazy. I agree with Obama, and respect him for respecting the privacy of other candidates family members.
Here's part of the reason this is an issue. Palin picks abstinence over sex-ed In 2006, McCain joined fellow Republicans in voting against a Senate Democratic proposal to send $US100 million ($A117.7 million) to communities for teen-pregnancy prevention programs that would have included sex education about contraceptives. http://www.smh.com.au/news/us-elect...ence-over-sexed/2008/09/03/1220121275973.html
I often wonder why any rational person would want their children taught abstinence OR sex ed. in school. Why would anyone feel comfortable putting such an issue in the hands of the state when it should be up to the parents to instill values in the child? Then people wonder why some Americans can't locate their own country on a map. Schools do not teach, they indoctrinate.
Depends on the parents. How many parents are experts on the subject of sex? Some parents may not know enough to be teaching their own kids. Anyway, parents are free to teach their kids what they want them to know about sex but different parents will have different approaches to this subject some better than others.
Please. Experts on sex? Most kids learn more about sex from their friends than their parents. It's highly unlikely that a 17 yr. old doesnt know what a condom is. I didn't learn anything in sex ed. that I didn't already know.
I find myself agreeing with you more and more these days Wacky. Bill Clinton was our elected Chief Executive, for him to take advantage of a low level employee in the executive office of the nation while the rest of us were attending sexual harrassment classes, and then lying about it is a very different issue. And Rat I also agree with you religion, and sex education should be the responsibility of the family and parents, not government. What this whole issue shows me is that Sarah Palin is probably one of the few government politicians that is experiencing issues similar to those experienced by my own family. With two income families necessary in this modern world, is it because we don't have time for our children's education? Are we too busy trying to make our bills, that we are no longer capable of spending the necessary time with our kids that we are allowing them either to be educated by government sponsored programs and/or running loose. There will always be teenagers that rebel against parental authority, but if the parents are so busy trying to make a living how much authority can they really hope to have.
What bothers me is that I have heard a myriad of Right Wing evangelists come out on the radio saying things like... "Well, we would have hoped that she would waited until she were married to have sex." and "We are proud that she did not have an abortion." Can you imagine what they would say (and have said) about Democrats in the same situation? You would not hear the end of the vicious remarks... and no Democrat in this situation would be elected. hypocritical political bullshit.
Nevermind the fact that Palin is asked to be the VP (out of nowhere) and does so with a special needs child and a pregnant 15 year old. The whole thing feels like McCain is pandering to women.
Sex-ed isn't jut about the actual physical act of sex. Remember seeing the sugar babies or tv shows or movies where the actors had to carry around a fake baby for a week Good Sex-ed programs educate children about the responsibilities and realities of becoming sexually active. http://www.education-world.com/a_curr/curr128.shtml
OR!!! you could feel grateful that they'll likely shut up about it next time. it's easier to see flaws in someone else than in yourself. well, now, they've a sympathy for someone they respect. maybe not deliberate hypocrisy, but chickens coming home to roost.
Why don't we ask the candidates about the issues that really matter? What about today's economy, what about the war? And it's not about who was a POW: It's about how many of our children and foreign civilians are going to be lost, and will that affect our economy?
It seems silly to feel grateful that after decades of attacking people on the same basis, now that one of their own is in the same situation, everyone can consider it acceptable. Do we have to go through each point like this, waiting for a republican to get into the same kinds of situations and realize it's just being human. I don't respect anyone who has to be dragged the entire way to a realization. But the thing is, you know they won't. They were even giving O'Bama shit about a half-brother he's never even met from another marriage. What would seriously happen if it was known that Michelle has a pregnant 15 year old.
