Time will tell if we ever see any sympathy out of this. My money is against.

Here's where I think America can learn from the Scandinavian countries who have very low teen pregnancy rates which also helps to keep their child poverty rate down by having fewer girls dropping out of school because of being pregnant.

Man if the swedes can do it with all those hot teens walking around then I'm sure we can lower our teen pregnancy rate. :D

I got pregnant at the ripe old age of 17, in 1971, and under pressure gave up the child (my only one) for adoption.

I do not blame my parents, and I don't think society should either. I went to sex-ed classes in HS, and what a joke. It was awful - I didn't want to participate. My parents made me though. And they helped a whole lot, didn't they? And back then, I'm pretty sure they didn't tell us about contraception. Forboten!

It's natural at a certain age to be drawn into sexual activity. Our bodies are geared for it. We can't help it. But without the information to convey the responsibility that goes along with that act, this scene will be played out again and again. Besides the information (which is out there THESE days) is the WANT to have sex the right way to protect yourself from ending up in this situation. Even in my day, you don't know how many girls were 'so in love with Jimmy, I have to have his baby' mindset. (I was NOT one of those girls - like a dumbass I just thought "it couldn't happen to me").

I don't know...would I have listened to my parents and used a condom if they'd told me? Boys hate those, right? But I do know Sex ed in school with all your classmates, male and female - was most uncomfortable.

I don't have the answer, but I don't believe this girl is a bad person for being in the situation she finds herself in. As long as she has family support to raise the child, she's got a better head start than I ever did.

And no, I don't agree just telling kids to abstain, will help at all. It's just too hard out there when you're young.

i didn't realize anyone gave obama shit about that. .

personally, i'm grateful for any evolution in compassion, however annoying the path they took to get there. i annoy the crap out of people every day. GOD FORBID i should ever change my mind, even when they've been bludgeoning me about the head in order to get me to do so. we're resentful animals. i think that what really sets us apart from the animals.

Along with having a pregnant teenage daughter, she also has a newborn son with Downs Sydrome, and another son who is enlisted military and is deploying to Iraq. Those are a lot of challenges that many American families can relate to.
