would it look better to have a marketing degree or graphic design degree? The marketing program at this university im looking at is 4 years, whereas the graphic design is 2 years.. I'm sure i could get them both done at the same time, maybe, I'll have to look into that more...

I'm making decent money at this job so i'm saving up to go to school maybe.. only issue with graphic design is you need a portfolio to get in... which goes for any kind of design/visual arts course... I don't have a portfolio... I used to be decent and took a lot of graphic desgin/visual arts media arts classes in high school... but the last 2 years i kind of used it as my 'spare' block and never went :p i really dont remember much..

i was hoping for a program that would actually teach me from the start up, but it seems as if there arent any of those... i could teach myself i guess, theres tons of youtube videos.. i could make my own portfolio like that maybe and then apply by next year.. i just find it really hard to keep myself motivated without a school or teacher or something... i've given up on online upgrading so many times already.. which is a big reason as to why im not in university yet... i need people to nag me or else i never get stuff done

why are you so concerned about what people think of you? if my employers ever ask me for my diploma i usually just tell them it's none of their business and they cant judge me.

oh my. i did not know honey bees came in black :) being allergic just means you should be aware. and also keep benadryl and/or an epi-pen on you as a precaution. i was stung repeatedly by either a wasp or yellowjacket on my nose when i was 5. they can sting more than once, so if they sting a rabbit, and the dog, and your mailman before they get you thats a lot of germs. i got a secondary infection and my face swelled up flat. like slits for eyes and no evidence of them from the surface. but not a bee. im pretty sure most, maybe not all, bees have barbed stingers that are attached to their insidey parts. stinging rips out their innards.

most of the time if you are calm around bees they wont bother you. my mom can weed around her flowers, even mints and lavender, while the bees are busy doing what they do.

wasps and yellowjackets and hornets can burn in hell though. i'll take a bee sting any day. at least i know if i get stung by one of them i must have done something to deserve it.

I think you want to be the artist right? If so then don't worry about the marketing degree. Those guys are the ones who make you feel empty without that product. The ones who use psychology to play dirty. For example Wendy's just got caught using subliminal advertising. If you look at the logo the word mom appears. This is so people will associate Wendy's with their mother's cooking. People tend to prefer mom's cooking. That side of the business can be nasty and under handed, I don't see as you as that type of guy.

one of my best kid injuries was opening the door at macs milk and the bottom of the door peeled off the nail of my big toe :)

also the 50 or so hornets stings was pretty awesome

i do want to be the artist type, but... I'm not all that artistic, I don't draw or anything... I used to be really good with photoshop, but then i stopped using it for a few years... I do kind of have more of a business mindset and am the type that can make money in almost any situation... I'm good at selling a product... But I don't want to be a salesmen..

The only reason I don't want to be on the business/statistic side of marketing is because i'm awful at math... I hate math, with a passion... I almost didn't graduate solely because of math... Thats why i was thinking i'd go into the artistic side of marketing instead

I like marketing... i find it hilarious going into a mall or store with my friends and seeing their reactions to products, my girlfriend will spend 20minutes looking at hair brushes.. "ohh this one does this, this one does that, blahblah" its funny how easily people can be convinced to buy a more expensive product for no other reason than what the packaging says.. even if its the exact same thing... I think it would be fun to design those kinds of things, because the average person is just so... you know lol

when i was little there was this park by my house, it was a sketchy weird little park... the kind you'd go to and always find random clothes laying around, or a mattress... hobo stuff... Well one time, my friend was sliding down the slide... and i guess some freak put razors along the sides of the slide.. and you know how kids put their hands on them as they slide down... well, he slid down, got up, and looked at his hands as they were covered in blood.. it was disgusting

We weren't aloud going back to that park.... lol

Have you considered Business Admin with a specialty in what you wish?
A little more rounded for the employment market in general and yet with a specialty it could open doors for you.

Thats actually what I was looking at, the program itself is Business Administration, then you major in marketing... Except... With that option you cant minor in graphic design or take any graphic design courses or anything... which is what i wanted to do

i kinda wanted to do both, like combine the two... but it seems as if every school i look at only lets you do one or the other... unless you take each completely separately, but getting 2 degrees would be to much.. thats like 8 years of work lol

Maybe give advertising (or other creative fields) a try? There is both a business and artistic side to advertising..you just need to choose which path you would like to pursue. I feel this is the route i'm currently leaning towards, along w/ making music on the side.

Media is also another good field to pursue if you want to get involved with the creative side of things. It's an ever growing field and is quite broad. Things like web series, podcasts, television, broadcasting, video editing, magazines, newspaper, music, etc, are all some fields that deal with media. Advertising and Marketing firms often seek out people w/ media degree's. There are just many creative things you can do in these fields...you just need to find what your niche might be and do some research. :sunny:

Not necessarily, you can take two degrees at the same time if you are willing to be a little flexible with your time. I did so.

If you take some night and summer courses you generally only take about one year longer to complete both degrees. Worth thinking about.

At the time it is stressful and requires dedication but it does make for better marketability in todays work place. :)

If you are considering doing this you are best to go in and see an advisor as they can help you to set up a schedule that will enable it.

So for the first time in my life I'll actually have PLT... Not something that cooks often get unless you're management in a better off kitchen. I'm not management but I will now be in charge of cooking caterings we do. Comes with a $1 raise, the week of plt and guaranteed 40hrs... It'll be nice to not be f'd in the A when I need time off or I need a sick day

my name is cory - advertisng would be awesome, i consider it almost the same as the creative side of marketing, wouldn't one get into a career in advertising through a marketing degree though?

True, but I can't possibly take both at the same time because then I'd have no time for a decent job, I have to be paying for all of this somehow remember :p I don't think i could afford going through 2 degrees while working only a few shifts of minimum wage work a week...

Plus... this would also mean i'd be stuck living at home for the next 5 years, which i also dont want...

    Priorities? :)

It can be done and you can also work at the same time and if you do not want to have excessive student loans then suck it up and stay at home and finish your studies. If you choose instead to live away then factor in the loans and it is still doable.

You are hitting the age of making decisions that are adult and sometimes they are not what you wish but know are best. Happens. :)

I don't know how student loans work in Canada, but you do need to consider debt. In the US, it is almost not worth it to go to college anymore. You will be paying loans off until you are 50, meanwhile our parents graduated with $1500 in debt for 4 years. You will get more then $1500 in debt in one semester now. I know people who owe six figures.

Yea debt is one thing i definetly don't want to get into... I've always told myself if i cant afford school i just wont go... The only reason im considering it now again is because this new job pays well, i'll be able to save up enough for at least the first year or two...

but if i end up not going to school, i've always thought of just getting my certificate and becoming an electrician, that was always my back up plan if i never went to school... If I dont start school by the end of this year, i'm probably just going to do that...

it pays well and its work that i dont despise
